Today’s acquisitions from the Center for Fiction

Jeff Goldblum does well enough singing in No One Mourns the Wicked but does anyone else notice he hocks a loogie in the soundtrack recording?

This is the moment when we recognize that culture is made on BlueSky

I’m about to see Wicked for the 2nd time tonight and no one has asked for the volume to be turned up today before me!!!

lettuce be gladddd. lettuce be gratefullll.

Help us send 2,000 books to readers who are incarcerated this winter through our Books Not Bars program

There are no words for what seeing Wicked last night meant to me. I was fully weeping during Defying Gravity. My existence was queer theory going into the theater and queer praxis coming out of it.

“It was all very queer. But queerer things were yet to come.” The best line from Sunset Boulevard?

Printing these skeets and framing them on my wall to regulate my nervous system over the next 4 years.

I had an amazing time tonight celebrating my grantee and hero Jody Lewen and the accomplishments of the students, staff, alumni of Mount Tamalpais College. Jody has been the North Star for the higher education in prison field and I’m in awe of what she’s done to transform the lives of her students.

I don’t know what to say to you people but thanks for coming here, I guess?

Anyway congratulations to Penn on sacrificing its president to try to curry favor with a genuinely anti-Semitic political movement www.nytimes.com/2022/05/16/u...

Really proud of myself for breaking new ground in my personal life in Atlanta: using a hotel gym.

The Fall of the House of Usher (2023) is Edgar Allan Poe’s Eras Tour.

I got called a twunk this evening.

In a car with a “HUSSLIN” vanity plate en route to DADDIES.

The NYC ferry is so wonderful. I feel like Jackie Kennedy Onassis on a yacht every time I ride it to and from work. :)

These COVID naps are something else. When they come on I feel so zapped that I’m not even on the plane of the living once I knock out. This is like some other kind of sleep that Ambien could never provide.

Omg I just found out that my eligible payments toward public service loan forgiveness went up from 10 out of 120 months to 85 of 120 months. I am the happiest COVID-riddled boy today!!!! 😭 😭 😭

Such a treat to be at The New School tonight to mark the launch of Sara Ahmed’s latest book “The Feminist Killjoy Handbook” as part of The New School’s Mellon Initiative for Inclusive Faculty Excellence. Speaking of excellence, I also finally got to meet the wonderful @devawo.bsky.social in person!

I like the way Ellen Burstyn speaks in The Exorcist.

I’ve been to Javits and Four Freedoms Park within the last month so I can say I’ve visited two places in NYC where I feel the trauma of Hillary Clinton’s election loss.

I love car-free life but I haven’t found that beautiful, liminal space for daily 90-minute dissociative episodes that I could have in my car after work.

i think if i were a u.s. senator i would definitely call for bob menendez's resignation but it would be as much for how gauche the corruption was as it would be for the corruption itself. like, c'mon man, gold bars? jackets stuffed with cash? have some dignity you mayor quimby motherfuck

My edition of Nella Larsen's Passing has both a page at Broadview and a cover! (The cover is graced by the multitalented Etta Moten Barnett, one of the stars of the Harlem Renaissance stage.) It'll be available November 1st—in plenty of time for the spring semester.

Frankly, one of the absolute worst things to happen to actually fruitful intergenerational trauma discourse was epigenetics

The Ohio Dept of Corrections has banned two of my books—including one that won a scholarly award—among hundreds of titles on everything from US history to computer programming. Not banned? “Mein Kampf.” www.themarshallproject.org/2023/06/20/o...

📣 CFP: Calling all witches and wizards 🧙🏽 Join us in person Nov 17 and 18 to discuss The Craft—those artisans of culture and history working against institutions, churches and governments. We have microgrants available. Learn more... creativeforum.yale.edu/encounters/2...

I think “do we live in a simulation” is a uniquely appealing philosophical question to techbros because the rest of us exist according to the whims of people like them whether we’re real or not

He’s really going with “these is my emotional support piles of cash.” Truly incredible stuff.

I’ve learned so much from working on our prison education grants at the Mellon Foundation in my year plus in this job. If I’ve learned nothing else, it’s that offering higher education inside is not worth it if we’re just replicating all the things that are bad about higher ed on the outside.

*tap mics* Is this thing on? Hello, fellow BlueSky historians! This is the BlueSky app account for the media and curriculum database #WomenAlsoKnowHistory. Our goals are to share, celebrate, and uplift the lives and work of women and nonbinary historians. womenalsoknowhistory.com

Goluboff’s tenure as UVA Law dean will go down in the annals of American legal education. When we built the foundation for historical research into the law school’s ties to slavery, she gave us our mandate with total independence. An absolutely phenomenal dean. www.law.virginia.edu/news/202309/...
