Guardian caption writer being a cheeky monkey today.

The US Republican government's attempts to create fissures in Europe is going well, then. Farridge must be *so* grateful.

Everything happening in the US - the illegal arrests & deportations, the economy-busting tariffs, the destruction of public services, the wilful ignoring of the rule of law, the misogyny and racism: these are Republican Party policies. Every Republican who does not protest against it, endorses it.

The start state of Waffle (wafflegame.net) today is disturbingly Swastikoid in form. I hope that's a critique of the current US government, not an endorsement.

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

Village idiot Liz Truss wants to create her own version of Trump's 'Truth Social' for the UK. Any thoughts about what it should be called? I'm for 'Talk Market'. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Granted that it's all nonsense anyway, I can't see any reason why a man who conceived and created one of the masterpieces of religious architecture shouldn't be beatified. I wish the Catholic Church, with its eye-watering wealth, would fund its completion, though www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

Calm down, folks, it was just an attempted assassination of a Jewish Democratic governor and his family on the first night of Passover, it’s not like somebody spray painted a dick on a Cybertruck.

Presumably Trump is all, 'Boys will be boys' about this appalling mass murder. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

This translates as, "If you don't hit me I'll give you my lunch money."

Is America Great Again yet?

The rest of the world was playing checkers while Trump was playing with his poo.

This analysis, by Sky UK business presenter Ian King, of why Trump blinked seems informed and convincing: news.sky.com/story/trump-...

Those people who are suggesting Trump trashed the economy in order to dump and then pump stocks for the benefit of wealthy investors may be right - but I don't think do. It looks and quacks like sheer incompetence.

The Emperor's New Clothes, re-enacted in real time as US current affairs. “All the people standing by, and those at the windows, cried out, “Oh! How beautiful are our Emperor’s new clothes!”

I think it's safe to say that Peter Navarro, architect of Trump's 'Tariffs for Toddlers' approach to international trade, will not be spending much time at Mar a Lago in future.

J.D. Vance’s remark about “Chinese peasants” exposes not only his diplomatic ineptitude but a worldview rooted in outdated stereotypes. It’s not policy—it’s performative ignorance masquerading as economic insight.

www.jalopnik.com/1829010/tesl... Musk is looking more flawed and bruised, day on day. And he's a fragile narcissist, of course, with an instinct to lash out when he feels hurt. Shit's going to get messy, and soon. There is no such thing as a pack of narcissists. They are all mutually exclusive.

UK tabloid, The Daily Star, considers whether Trump will survive in office, comparing him to UK Prime Disaster Liz Truss. Her far-right economic tinkering crashed UK finances, and saw her own party vote her out of power faster than the wilting of a lettuce the paper featured on its front page.

www.theguardian.com/politics/202... Well, thank flip for that: Starmer is signalling that Labour's slavish obedience to the letter of Reeve's fiscal promises is behind us. Perhaps we can now consider closer trading ties with the EU and taking more from the rich, rather than the sick and disabled?

It’s pretty simple… you can have a MAGA government, or you can have a healthy economy. You just can’t have both.

I was worried prior to reading this, but I did OK. I wash my bedding fortnightly, duvet covers more often if Lolapuss comes in with muddy paws. I wash towels every 4 or 5 uses. Tea towels, not as often as they suggest; but I rend to let washing-up dry overnight. www.theguardian.com/wellness/202...
