It's indisputable that the EU, UK, Canada, Japan and China are better positioned than the US to cope with an economic downturn. Not only that, their populations will be motivated to do so as, in effect, they're fighting a virtual invading force. US cities will burn first.

The most effective weapons the US had were Happy Days, the West Wing, and Friends. They convinced the world that, although it sometimes got things wrong, the US was essentially well-meaning and basically good. I think that the true nature of the US is on full display today.
