Happy Independent Bookstore Day! I went to Alibi Bookshop (624 Marin St Vallejo CA) and picked up this mini haul 😊📚

Austria 🇦🇹 JJ - Wasted Love. I watched a live version and, yes, he can hold the notes. A beautiful song with a phenomenal singer. The odds have JJ in second place for the entire contest. With enough votes, he could be the upset winner. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

United Kingdom 🇬🇧 Remember Monday - What The Hell Just Happened? A fun, girly party song. Good singing, great energy. This is a crowd pleaser that has the potential to be a hit, but not the winner. The chorus has strong potential to be a trending sound. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Armenia 🇦🇲 PARG - SURVIVOR. A rousing rock anthem with great staging, perfect for Eurovision. The problem is the song doesn’t really stand out that much. It would’ve been better if sung in Armenian to make it more special. Finale: N. #Eurovision

Latvia 🇱🇻 Tautumeitas - Bur Man Laimi. Okay, I kinda love this. The staging is terrible, and the costumes aren’t great, but the song is beautiful. It’s magical, feminine, and ethereal. If they stop with the bad dancing and hand vamping, this could make it past the semi-finale. Finale: M #Eurovision

Ireland 🇮🇪 EMMY - Laika Party. The story of Laika, a Soviet space dog, is tragic and gives the song pathos. The song itself is sweet and youthful. The beat reminds me of 90s Eurodance, which I really like. This might be too cute, but if people get the message, it could go far. Finale: M. #Eurovision

Montenegro 🇲🇪 Nina Žižić - Dobrodošli. She’s got a great voice, if a bit raspy and breathy. It’s a style choice and if you like this style of ballad, you’ll like this very much. It’s not my cup of tea. While I acknowledge her talent, the song is rather typical. Finale: N. #Eurovision

Australia 🇦🇺 Go-Jo - Milkshake Man. Silly, naughty fun. This is a guaranteed crowd pleaser and a great start to the second semi-final. With its disco beat, euphemisms, and pornstache, it’s a hit, but not the winner. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Cyprus 🇨🇾 Theo Evan - Shh. Great voice and an infectious beat, but is it a banger? I don’t know. The lyrics are awful, like a bad translation. I think I’d enjoy this more if he was singing in Greek. I think it all depends on his live performance. We’ll see. Finale: M. #Eurovision

Switzerland 🇨🇭 Zoë Më - Voyage. This is nice. Lovely vocals. She has a sweet, dreamy voice. Nothing too exciting or different. If this wasn’t the host country, I’d say this wouldn’t make it to the finale. Since it is, Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Croatia 🇭🇷 Marko Bošnjak - Poison Cake. This song is all over the place, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It reminds me of Ireland 2024. It’s one of those songs that grows on you. Problem is, the live version doesn’t sound as good as this. Based on the live version, Finale: N. #Eurovision

Netherlands 🇳🇱 Claude - C'est La Vie. A good song carried by amazing vocals. With a lesser voice, this wouldn’t be great, but with Claude, it’s a banger. Expect this to score high, especially with the juries, in the grand finale, but probably not the winner. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Albania 🇦🇱 Shkodra Elektronike - Zjerm. One of my early favorites. Artsy, cool, cultural yet modern. Just so good. Love the vocals and the drama. I’m posting the live performance rather than the official video because I think it’s better. Hope it stays this good. Finale: Finale: Y. #Eurovision

San Marino 🇸🇲 Gabry Ponte - Tutta L'Italia. All right, San Marino! I think we have something here. SM rarely qualifies for the finale, but they continue participating every year and you gotta love them for that. This is pretty good. Potential to be a banger. Finale: M for Maybe. #Eurovision

Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 Mamagama - Run With U. Decent beat and vocals. The video, though, isn’t doing the song any service. Kinda 90s MTV, which is probably the point, but it doesn’t give a good indication of the performance potential until the very end. Finale: N.

Italy 🇮🇹 Lucio Corsi - Volevo Essere Un Duro. If 70s Bowie had been Italian, it would've looked something like this. Though obviously influenced by Ziggy, this still manages to be original, melodic, and a genuine banger. Lucio Corsi has a great voice and stage presence. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Saturday afternoon sun worshipper 🌞 #caturday #catsofbluesky

Belgium 🇧🇪 Red Sebastian - Strobe Lights. If you like techno (and I do,) you’ll love this banger. Catchy tune, great vocals, and a beat that’ll make you want to get up and dance. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Norway 🇳🇴 Kyle Alessandro - Lighter. Great song for his placement in the middle of the show. It’s a lively tune with good singing and dancing. It’ll make people wake up and take notice. Is it a winner? No. But definitely a finalist. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Portugal 🇵🇹 NAPA - Deslocado. A nice, gentle pop ballad sung in Portuguese. Simply lovely, but perhaps a bit too simple. Being in the middle of the semi-final, a song has to stand out and I don’t think this one does. Finale: N. #Eurovision

Sweden 🇸🇪 KAJ - Bara Bada Bastu. Who knew a song about the joys of sauna would be the Eurovision frontrunner? Or that it would be sung in Swedish by a Finnish band? It’s a catchy, joyful tune and you’ll find yourself singing along with the chorus and proclaiming, “Sauna!” Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Ukraine 🇺🇦 Ziferblat - Bird of Pray. Love the whole 70s vibe, from the costumes and staging to the prog rock sound. Great vocals all around and the song is one of those catchy tunes that grows on you the more you listen to it. Ukraine always delivers and this is no exception. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

It's like Temu Eurovision

Spain 🇪🇸 Melody - ESA DIVA. A diva indeed! Love her performance. Honestly, it felt like that moment in a musical when the female lead sings of how you can’t knock her down and she’s gonna keep going no matter what. As a show tune, great! As a Eurovision winner, not so much. Finale: Y. #Eurovision

Estonia 🇪🇪 Tommy Cash - Espresso Macchiato. As a caffeine fiend, I love a song about loving coffee. Tommy’s rubbery dance moves and silly, sly lyrics make for a very entertaining song and performance. This has potential to be a dark horse winner. Finale: Y #Eurovision

Slovenia 🇸🇮 Klemen - How Much Time Do We Have Left. This is a nice ballad, but not exciting. Klemen’s performance doesn’t pick up until the end. The upside down moment is impressive, but gimmicky. He’s got a great voice, good range, but I don’t think it’s enough. Finale: N. #Eurovision

Poland Justyna Steczkowska - GAJA. She’s got a great voice and we love a violin moment. The song is pretty good and she knows how to go big. The dancing is kinda typical, i.e. not bad, but not memorable. Overall, a good entry, but not a winner. Finale: Y #Eurovision

Iceland The band VÆB is pronounced Vibe and their techno-pop song, RÓA, is legit a banger! Shades of Jedward? These bros aren’t twins, but have the same infectious energy and silly shenanigans. So much respect for waving the flag of Greenland. That alone gets 12 points from me. Finale: Y

Eurovision 2025 is coming up, so I’ll be posting my reviews for each participating country. I’ll be going by their order in Semi-Final 1 and Semi-Final 2. Finale: Y/N means whether or not I believe they’ll make it to the finale. Only 10 countries can make it from the semi-final to the finale.

I lived in Denmark for a short while. They were - WERE - so pro-American. This breaks my heart. We as Americans must do everything we can to stop Trump from making any further designs on Greenland.
