What radicalized me? Initially: Experiencing homelessness. Later: Volunteering at a housing assistance non-profit. More recently: Working in workforce development, helping people gain stability in their lives, in the 5th largest EOCD economy (i.e. San Francisco, CA)

March 1st can’t come soon enough… 👀 @berkeleyjournalism.bsky.social

I know many trans people who have more honesty, humility, uniformity, and integrity in their pinkies than some of Trump's cabinet have in their entire bodies.

Undocumented immigrants paid about $26 billion per year into Social Security, even though they will get nothing out of it. They subsidize citizens to an extraordinary degree. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/13/b...

What if we built a new major news and opinion journalism outlet from scratch and used it as a news lab to reform and rethink how we do things, starting first with billionaire-proofing it. And what if we honestly audited our flaws and came together to make the news orgs we want to see?

Solidarité!

Another in a long line of articles pointing out that you have to be willfully ignorant about history to find any contradictions or confusions in the birthright citizenship clause.

To me, a Nazi salute means, "I want to murder your family." There can be no irony about it: It puts deep anger and hatred in my heart to see it done and I will never forgive anyone who justifies or minimizes it.

Rather than reject climate science like many on the right, some have followed the path laid out by environmentalist and white nationalist John Tanton, using concerns about population growth and scarce resources to rationalize their hateful agendas. (Published Oct. 2024)

I was set to launch my book at the Carter Library next month. This week, we were told all events now need approval from the National Archives. The next day, my event was forced to relocate. A book about the working homeless. A book about civil rights. Apparently these topics are now off limits.

Today we launched @eltimpano.bsky.social's inaugural immigration newsletter, written by yours truly! This weekly dispatch will analyze the top immigration headlines through a Bay Area lens, always ensuring that the voices of Latino & Mayan immigrants are front & center. Sign up: www.eltimpano.org

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

There are moments in these deportation fights when I can just FEEL how pissed off they are that I’m Puerto Rican 😂 they want to threaten me with it so bad 😂

Adamantly opposing measles vaccinations but also claiming immigrants cause the disease. We’ve seen this movie before. Now in HD. www.cnn.com/2025/02/19/p...

As a botanist, I’m disappointed. More importantly, as an American, I appreciate the hell out of this. More, please!!!

This isn’t it. There is literally no “how” in this document.

Anyone with even a cursory high school civics class knows this is not a thing. Sound the alarm to all that this is not how the American political system created by the Constitution works. Saying "the law/nothing matters" is surrender & I'm not willing to give up. Way too early for that.

If you see this, quote with flowers from your gallery

Amid a catastrophic housing and homelessness crisis—with seven evictions filed every minute and rent now unaffordable for a record half of all U.S. tenants—what was Scott Turner’s first act as HUD Secretary? To make it easier for federally funded shelters to turn trans people away.

In the 1980s, the USSR spread a (false) conspiracy theory that the US gov was responsible for the generation & spread of AIDS. But now the Trump gov could make the conspiracy theory come true, by defunding an ongoing drug trial, which could catalyze the spread of drug-resistant HIV in Africa.

Con todo y la lluvia, aún río

You go, solar panels!

NEW: The Trump administration is not backing down in its effort to slash spending and reshape the federal government, despite multiple court orders explicitly restraining the president’s sweeping actions. By Jake Pearson and @anjeanette-damon.bsky.social

The blitz of Trump's immigration executive orders has continued, so fast and sweeping that it’s been hard to keep up, much less gauge their potential impact. Let's break down nearly three dozen of the most consequential changes he made on Day 1 ⤵️ (With @texastribune.org)

Tax dollars “at work”

In preparation for today’s Super Bowl in New Orleans, state police forced over 100 homeless men and women onto buses under threat of arrest, dumping them in an unheated warehouse. Tents destroyed, belongings lost. Press are barred from the warehouse. The price tag for this cruelty? $17.5 million

This profile has been scrubbed from the site. Rose Ferreira grew up without reliable electricity, immigrated to NY, then survived homelessness and cancer on her way to NASA. She was so moved by images from the Webb telescope she wept. This is what’s at stake web.archive.org/web/20231206...

With the NIH cuts, there’s no longer any excuse for any professor, in any discipline, to not address the moment in their classes. You don’t even have to be “political” if that’s how you roll; this changes everything. You need only observe reality. 1/

Another horrifying prospect. These programs are imperfect precisely due to low funding. These programs literally save the lives of so many kids. To improve individual lives and our society as a whole, these programs should receive more funding, not be destroyed.

Hear ye, fellow skeeters! Listen to this man, he knoweth what he sayeth!

FYI— @rejectionking.bsky.social

Guatemalan president pretends he’s entering a partnership with the US. In reality, you’re just cheap labor and pawns for the current admin in the US— embarrassing.

This is a coup. It's a Trump approved, GOP ignored, Musk executed take over of the non-military operations of the government. Here's my look at news outlets, independent journalists & analysts doing fearless reporting on the crisis. open.substack.com/pub/jennifer...

This is where we are now: A city in Northern California isn’t just making homelessness illegal—it’s criminalizing those who *help* people living on the street. Under a new ordinance, “aiding or abetting” an encampment would be a misdemeanor, punishable by a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail.

"Do not lose hope", says @mariaressa.bsky.social to journalists who continue to report the truth even in the hard times of a corrupt government. "Collaborate, collaborate, collaborate. Reach across. Stand by your values." And most important: "Hold the line." www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtST...

"Trump is acting like a king because he is too weak to govern like a president. He is trying to substitute perception for reality. He is hoping that perception then becomes reality. That can only happen if we believe him."
