I was super into Sarah Mclachlan when I was a depressed teenager. Did not form the same emotional attachment to her 2000s albums. But I'm starting to now. "Time" in particular speaks to me now in a way it didn't before. I wonder what that says about where I am these days.

On the hardest days, I try to limit myself to thinking how this administration will hurt me personally. Here's how: my portfolio has lost about 200k since he took office.

It's interesting that the people who fight separation of church and state today think it will lead to the state enforcing their religion's rules, when historically, it was more "The king can replace your bishops if they say anything bad about him". You know, like what Trump wanted on day 1.

Some government employees have been warned not to respond to Elon's email until further guidance has been issued from the actual chain of command.

I don't WANT people to die from the current administration's policies. But given that it is absolutely inevitable that they will, I am glad that it is going to happen quickly and in numbers that will defy their half-assed attempts to hide it.

For many federal employees, responding to an internet email with the details of what you did at work is a federal crime.

If I understand the theory right, the way AI image generation works is roughly that you take a picture of random noise, tell the AI that it's actually a very blurry picture the thing you wanted, and ask it to "enhance! enhance!" Which is clever, crazy, stupid, and funny all at the same time.

If the GOP wants to eliminate the Civil Rights Act of 1964, introduce a bill, put it up to a vote. Campaign on it. Say it, cowards. Stop hiding behind the illegal DOGE “DEI” chainsawing.

the real question at this point is: who's gonna stop him? The republican congress will not. The democrats in congress don't have the power. The entire executive branch will not stop him. The military will not stop him. Who would stop him?

millennials, xennials, and gen-xers who are in the "stable functional adult" cohort: do you own matching sets of drinking glasses? I feel like even among the "respectable" of us, buying a set of glasses is weird; your main drinkingware is an ecclectic collection of cool glasses you got piecemeal

Americans are so math-illiterate that keep thinking it is a good idea to save $4 on their taxes in return for having to subscribe to breathable air for $300 a month.

Curious whether this is the correct degree of subtle

Folks like AOC and Pete Buttigieg SHOULD be leading the charge against the current maladministration and for a better tomorrow, because, like, we can always fail back to boring old straight white dudes if that doesn't pan out.

It will never fail to amaze me that people so viciously devoted to their own personal image can look at history and say, "Yes, but THIS TIME supporting hate and bigotry is going to go really well and I'll be remembered as being on the right side of history"

It's kinda weird that George Clooney doesn't color his hair since it is the only part of him that has aged since the 90s.

Thank god Elon will voluntarily recuse himself whenever he detects a conflict of interest.

I do wonder if Stephen King watches Elon walk around wearing little X like a football helmet and contemplates rewriting the ending of The Dead Zone.

He's a black man in America and his go-to example of "being unfairly persecuted" is Hitler. Like what, three days after proudly declaring himself a "collaborator"?

An incredibly important exchange here for more reasons than one. It’s worth it to note: this DOJ lawyer, Jason Lynch, is tanking his credibility in defense of an insidious, pretextual, and asinine Trump Administration policy. This kind of stuff will forever haunt you professionally.

Let me once again try to explain a DOGEish scenario: Declare 100 medicare recipients to be fraudulent. 10 of them are actually fraudulent 40 of them file a successful appeal 50 of them aren't able to figure out the appeals process and die. Elon declares a 60% success rate at fighting fraud.

I see a lot of people trying "Oh so now if I think I'm saving my country, it's okay?" But no, it's not if you *think* it. It's if you *really are*, and HE is the sole arbiter of whether or not you really are. Stop trying to logic-bomb fascists. They are immune.

It is wild that Ariana Grande looks more like a supernatural being in Wicked than Cynthia Erivo, who is, at the time, green.

And Elon will be able to buy the entire US economy in the ensuing fire sale

Trump and Musk are so racist they wanna bring back Jim Crow. Pass it on

His voters thought they were getting a white ethnostate that dominated through bullying, but all Donald wanted was to sell the country for scrap.

Hang on if you can. If you can't, arrange to have your body dumped in front of the white house.

Wasn't this the exact piece of knowledge that Sideshow Rick Perry torpedoed his political ambitions by not knowing?

It is hard to comprehend but what Musk and his ilk really want is to replace countries with tiny dictatorial fiefdoms each run by an insane billionaire. For the masses, "freedom" will mean only freedom to switch which insane billionaire you tithe to

Unfortunately due to Disney's new anti-DEI stance, this additional verse will be extremely racist.

Oh that's fun. Trying to transfer money between two financial institutions and one of them requires that the other one's account numbers follow the same format that they do.

We need a DOGE death count tracker.

Controversial idea: Do a Goonies sequel in the model of It. First half of the movie, we cast child actors to play the original characters in a new adventure, but then we skip ahead 30 years and have the original actors play their older selves reuniting to finish what they'd started in the 80s.

Does anyone seriously imagine that before making a decision, Donald Trump or Elon Musk have ever, would ever asks themselves, "Is this good for America?"

Why 200? Because right before the bicentennial, we took that power away to prevent a corrupt president from abusing it.

"Well, people are having a hard time making ends meet, there's strife in Ukraine and the middle east, and california is on fire. What are our priorities?" "Getting rid of paper straws and not hiring too many minorities."
