ICYMI: I spoke with @newsnation.bsky.social about the Trump Administration’s efforts to put federal employees “in trauma,” putting their work to keep the American people safe and provide services at risk.

We adjourned Sine Die, and I’m proud of the work we accomplished—passing bills and a budget that put Virginians first. From lowering p-drug costs to tackling the housing crisis, delivering $1B+ in tax cuts, and investing $$$ in our schools, kids & families. The work continues.

Net Approval of Trump's Handling of the Economy: January 26: +4% February 18: -8% - Ipsos -

The final day of the Virginia General Assembly. Only the budget to adopt.

Former Delegate Dave LaRock seems serious about seeking Virginia GOP nomination He has until April 3 to gather at least 10K valid signatures Not an easy feat although enough time still left If he makes it, would likely make primary a loyalty contest about backing Trump wtop.com/virginia/202...

Today is George Washington’s 293rd birthday. It’s a good day to heed the warning from his farewell address that love of power could result in despotism, authoritarianism, and tyranny. To prevent this, we must uphold proper checks and balances to limit this power.

One thing glaringly obvious from this Emergency Committee (in bipartisan testimony): there is a total lack of information and clarity about *everything* related to these cuts to the federal workforce and programs. State and local governments are in chaos trying to prepare.

The senior military officer purges will put our troops in danger. Trump put a part-time airmen incharge of the military, jumping a slew of 3 and 4-stars with 30-40 years of military experience. Our enemy couldn’t be happier.

House announces that tomorrow will be a time warp. They will come in at 2:00pm and be in the 2024 special session I; adjourn, then recess for 15 minutes; and return to 2025 regular session; votes on the budget expected around 4:00 pm.

John Lewis was born 85 years ago today. He spent his life working to make the ideals upon which this country was founded true for everyone. His final words to us are more important than ever. #BHM2025

As prices continue to rise, instead of focusing on finding ways to lower costs and cut taxes for the middle-class, Republicans in Washington are focused on cutting taxes for the wealthy at the expense of American families, seniors, veterans and students.

As Republicans move a budget resolution tonight, it’s important to understand this: they're working on tax breaks for billionaires while slashing health care, education and public safety and doing nothing about the really big problems most Americans are facing, like the rising costs of housing.

The White House said under oath that Elon Musk is not the administrator of DOGE. Donald Trump himself has said the exact opposite. Someone is lying. The question is, by what authority is Elon Musk taking a wrecking ball to our government?

Update: we are about to vote on an amendment that would help prevent increases in your energy bill. That’s money back in folks’ pocketbooks. Let’s see where GOP priorities are.

Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Don Scott on the impact of MAGA on Virginia.

Trump bragged about overturning Roe, which created threats to women's access to reproductive care, including IVF. Americans were outraged, especially after Rs blocked a Dem bill to protect IVF access. Now Trump is trying to save face with a meaningless order that won't actually safeguard IVF.

White House officials say Elon Musk is not a DOGE employee. Donald Trump himself says the opposite. Somebody is lying, and Oversight Democrats intend to find out who. thehill.com/homenews/hou...

Donald Trump claimed he wanted to lower housing prices. I’ve put up an amendment to the budget that says we should do that. Let’s see what’s more important to my Republican colleagues — addressing the rising cost of housing, or tax cuts for billionaires.

@ssurovell.bsky.social says based on the news he's seeing every day it's clear that "we're going to be back in session" within 2-3 months rewriting the budget, just like four years ago when we had to come back during the pandemic because the economy was about to tank.

Sen McPike angrily makes a point of order in the middle of a nasty Sen Stanley speech (accusing Dems of playing politics re: bill on unemployment benefits for federal contractors) that the rules of the Senate state that "No person shall impugn the motives of members."

As the Trump-Musk administration continues its assault on the civil service, remember this: 30% of the federal workforce are veterans. They fought for our country, and they don't deserve to be treated this way. wtop.com/virginia/202...

HB1767 to help federal contractors get unemployment benefits passes, with some GOP members taking a walk on the vote. It's been amended to ensure there's money in the budget allocated to it (rather than forcing it through and hoping to find money from *somewhere* to pay for it).

📹 ICYMI: I stood with AFGE and other civil service organizations to stand up for our federal workforce and fight back against Russell Vought’s efforts to traumatize them.

As winter storms wallop Virginia and leave some still without power, it’s important to know that the Trump administration has frozen more than $292 million in funding to improve the resiliency of Virginia’s electric grids!
