I was just reading some comments about Andor and... Well, the show wrapped filming in Feb. '24. If you think the standard Space Nazi Baddies doing standard Nazi Baddie stuff are mocking Trump's policies you might want to have a good hard think about it. That's all I'm saying.

With everything happening at the NSF, you might have missed that they also dissolved 12 of their advisory committees last week. The committees helped ensure that the NSF supported important science and did so effectively. More context from me @cenmag.bsky.social: cen.acs.org/policy/resea...

What could have been a nice day off with the missus turned out to be Covid

The Mindflayer in my son’s Easter Basket came with an adorable little pet Intellect Devourer

I, too, have a drinks cabinet

but news outlets won't frame this as Trump being old and out of touch, even though it's even truer of him than it was of Biden: and that's because his free-associating is rapid-fire instead of slow, and because he's aggro with them and they respond hungrily to being negged. but he's drowsy grandpa

Last minute, but we have a single ticket for the #DeadMilkmen tonight in Philadelphia if anyone wants to go. Show starts at 9 at Underground Arts.

I swear, half of what I see in LinkedIn are passionate posts about the devastation gov't cuts are having in science and medicine. Gov't scicomms, in particular, has been gutted The other half are hacky attempts by posters trying to position themselves as thought leaders.

Meh, close enough. Ship it.

I can't tell if the word "Accommodation" has too many c's or m's for my liking.

Good morning Jenkintown

I was surprised to see a Houdini bust at Vampa, the vampire museum in Doylestown

Currently celebrating the ninth anniversary of the β€œ42” shirt my wife bought me for achieving that milestone.

Well, it is on brand, I guess. I can't count the guy who thinks tariffs make things cheaper to understand ROI on federal research. I'm a broken record, but we need to settle into the idea that we will lose a generation or two of scientific progress. And that's if we ever recover at all.

If any #scicomms folks want a copy of Elise Hancock's superb "Ideas into Words: Mastering the Craft of Science Writing," please DM me. I have a spare somehow. #springcleaning

SEPTA is up against a funding cliff 😱 We need transit to function for general functioning of the city (SEPTA is how I get almost everywhere), and also need MORE transit for a sustainable future. Transit for All PA is organizing around this. PA, send this letter! www.transitforallpa.org/takeaction/

Meanwhile, in totally preventable regional disaster news, SEPTA announces what their budget shortfall will look like. In short, pretty disastrous. Of course, we continue to look at transit as a burden "for the poors" and car traffic as "way things are done." 1/3

In more important news, when did this become the dominant form of gnome?

I heard that DOGE is finally hitting the National Institute for Satirical Comedy. They are expecting a massive reduction in farce. Thank you, and good night. Remember to tip your servers.* *Whatever happened to that tax-free tip thing?

Here's my general rant, America -- not that you have anything else on your mind right now. For the most part, we have so much damn space that we could do this practically everywhere. It would be good for kids, adults, the elderly, disabled, pedestrians, parents sick of shuttling kids everywhere.
