huge messed up think in discourse was "suburban wine moms" = centrists who hate Bernie/love everything D leadership does. soooo many normie moms fighting for their trans kids, want huge action on climate, worried about safety net etc. etc. also some voted for bernie & almost all wd have in general

What Cobb should have done is say: You still have free-speech rights as far as we are concerned. If you get targeted for protected speech, we will do our best to support you. We will put up a fight. We will protest. And if you get deported, you can Zoom into your classes and still get your degree.

I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.
