Blows my mind that there are still communities where you roll the dice on whether you’ll have enough cell service to sustain a call. Camping in the wilderness? Sure. < 1 mile from a Dollar General? Nah.

Can tell this cat is feeling better as she slowly transforms into a little gremlin at pill time again.

Life circumstance dictates that I am responsible for mowing, when my partner usually takes that up with something resembling glee. So far, I can only agree that the ice cold light beer at the end is pretty good. Almost makes it worth doing.

Most people’s trash (old packing paper) is this cat’s favorite crinkly nap spot

Y’all, I met a young adult who has never used a physical key to unlock a door. I think that conversation is the oldest I’ve ever felt.

Now begins day 3 of attempting to mow the weeds. Finally cleared the non-functional mower hurdle just after sunset last night, which all but guarantees a good rain this afternoon to take us into day 4.

I’d like to go to bed, but she’s snoring, so we stay on the couch a while longer

Lol @ rushing the field. Before the game is over. Embarrassing.

Riding the ship down, dumping buckets overboard

Guess some of us are spending our extra hour on weather awareness this year

The best upside to 80°F highs in late October is the ability to enjoy a porch beer after work. Like really revel in it.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but this year’s COVID vaccine is a reformulation for new strains, not a booster. Watching my Saturday prospects dwindle in real time, but glad I didn’t chance it before a work day.

I’m sure it says something about me that my recovery meal of choice following academic stress seems to be the cheapest frozen pizza available and Bud Light, no deviations.

Roll Tide to all and to all a Roll Tide

I went rogue and attempted a bhindi curry recipe (because fresh okra) with absolutely no frame of reference. I am just so delighted by whatever came out of my pan, and I imagine the real thing must be lights out amazing.

Butter chicken with *cashews in the sauce* really stepped up the texture. I’m so, so close to just having a beautiful sauce for rice or bread or just to eat by itself as the most luscious soup that ever was and not caring one bit about whether any chickens were involved.

I love having an immersion blender for soup, but wow have I been completely sleeping on its food processor and smoothie (!) capabilities. Absolutely working its way up in the appliance rotation.

Well, after putting it off a while, my car knows it lives in Oklahoma now. Guess that makes it official? Or does that happen after the first big hail oops?

Mmmmhm gotta love the sound of pea-size hail on a metal roof

Sigh. Thawed the ground pork instead of beef for Spanish rice. Oh well let’s see whether suppertime magic is born out of this mistake

Been a little heavy handed with the red pepper lately. Guess I’ll teach myself to eat hot things after all 🥵

Well, there went the first not-a-test tornado siren of new OK residency.

Just made/ate the best sheet bake of my life but it’s no small wonder. It had the fat quadfecta - bacon, butter, olive oil, and the rendered fat from dark meat chicken cuts. Potato, red onion, and sourdough croutons also involved but I think next time I’ll kick it up a notch with Brussels sprouts.

Also, first experience on a flight where the attendant was trying to give everyone preemptive ginger ale before takeoff 😰 Generally, 0/10 recommend for ways to spend a Saturday.

Got caught up in the travel snarl around DFW yesterday. Started out on a 5am flight, spent the day trying to leave AUS after being diverted from DFW, and ultimately (miraculously) returned to OKC by midnight since HSV/BHM/BNA was impossible before late Sunday and would require 2+ connections.

The trick about freezing peeled ginger (peeled by spoon) to grate directly into whatever you’re cooking has entirely changed my culinary experience. I now buy the big roots, can eat so many more delightfully zesty things, and the sad ground powder is getting sadder in the back of the cabinet.

Pretty sure we’ve tried 35 different kinds of food for this cat. This weekend, won’t touch anything made for cats that I give her, but loses her entire mind over a buttered penne noodle and a little Braum’s gravy*. Can’t even judge though because same ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *not at the same time

Is it normal to empty your apartment kitchen on < 1 day’s notice for pest control?? Also grateful the vet has boarding room tomorrow because this efficiency bedroom doesn’t have a door to close and there’s no world in which I just leave a cat unattended in a carrier for 8 hours.

I love oatmeal but it doesn’t love me. Enter buckwheat “groats.” Sweet hot cereal breakfast is back (I’m firmly in the sweet oatmeal/savory grits quadrant)

Mustered the confidence (aka finally couldn’t do enough things that it became a problem) to catapult my early 2014 laptop from Mojave to Big Sur, which apparently is where the road ends for us.

In the long haul, asynchronous moving stage where there are two residences that need to function for a considerable time- The drip coffee maker lives with the pot-a-day consumer. In the hunt for an affordable non-Keurig one cup solution, enter AeroPress. My stars. If this is coffee, it’s amazing.

“Welcome back,” I guess?

Out of 35 unlabeled breakers in the panel, we’ve ended the day with only 6 remaining. Have a guess for what ~4 might do. The final 2-3 may forever remain a mystery!

Woke up unemployed for the first time in a while, but it’s because I’m making my way to the next thing. See y’all in Oklahoma in a couple of weeks!

Y’all, it happened again. The pattern is bitter cold, few days’ warmup, then bat in bedroom at 1am. Except this time it’s lost inside and I may not go back to sleep. Ever.

After last Christmas, hearing “voluntary load curtailment” as “charge all your stuff, blackouts are coming.”

No thank you
