My latest read - this collection of writings focuses on haunting from futures that never transpired, largely through music and television/film. Really interesting, sometimes quite a rollercoaster to absorb, and I enjoyed having to look up several artists that I’d never heard of before :-) #amreading

Aww, 7 years ago, doing a book signing for my second book at Exeter Library! That’ll be thanks to @karenhuxtable.bsky.social who arranged it, then later set up a book review site with me, then even later became a colleague…at Exeter Library 😂

As it was a blustery day in Devon today, I tucked myself up on the sofa with an oldie but a goodie - The Stone Tape. I do enjoy it (despite the bouts of overacting)!

East Quay in #Watchet is where it’s happening…great exhibition and a writing festival to boot!

An engrossing read - delving into what folk horror is, through an exploration of books, films and music. #folkhorror #amreading

Libraries, museums, colleges and chronophaghes! #cambridge

Another day, another library! Trinity College library, Cambridge - which in addition to an impressive array of books also houses Isaac Newton’s walking stick, a signed copy of Das Kapital and a Shakespeare first folio. #libraries

Another day…another library! A bedraggled (and very cold) Lucy went round Cambridge Central Library- haven’t been in since I lived in Cambridge and it was a joy to be back! Love the environmental display at the front, plus the very well provisioned teen area. #libraries

I’m happy to share that ASCEL are now on Bluesky! Follow us for the latest news relating to amplifying young voices and inspiring inclusion in libraries. bsky.app/profile/asce... #libraries

I enjoyed this one. All the delicious folk horror tropes have been squeezed in; mysterious villages, the woods with their secrets, ritual, outsiders and more. A satisfying twist too, though I will now have to slightly rewrite what I’m working on as it’s a bit similar, ha! #amreading

#weeknotes - rebranding, website development and a few book recommendations! www.linkedin.com/posts/lucy-b...

Very excited to learn from museums today at this event! #RethinkingMuseums

Just finished this one - a super-fun, hyper-energised series of vignettes focusing on twins; Mei Ling and Moonie. Very funny in places, poignant in others, an exploration of Chinese culture, tradition vs modernity and youth vs age. #amreading

This book was adorable. It’s a very sweet comedy-romance, lots of bumbling humour and awkwardness, and set in rain and English countryside. A welcome lighthearted read! #amreading

Interested in my forthcoming book on church folklore? You can read a sample chapter on the link below.

My latest #weeknotes - find out what we’ve been up to at ASCEL recently (clue: lots of great work with libraries focusing on engaging children and young people!) www.linkedin.com/posts/lucy-b...

Just finished this- it’s an unusual read! It felt very experimental, about a woman who’s lost her mind. Very ‘stream of consciousness’ in style, funny in places, a bit sad in others. I’d be interested to know if anyone else has read it - I’ve never heard of this author before #amreading

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer - this was such an unsettling read! This is a crazily inventive book, about a group entering ‘Area X’ and all the unnatural (or perhaps hyper-natural?) things they find there. Some lovely imagery, almost like reading someone’s strange nightmare. #amreading

Our Bloomsbury book series examines those lingering revenants of the past & ghostly "lost futures" so central to the critical concepts of hauntology & spectrality. Does this sound like your research? Then please, be in touch! 👻 #Hauntology #Hauntings #FolkHorror

I’m wrestling with the opening of the latest #folkhorror I’m working on and surprisingly, Pink Floyd’s Atom Heart Mother is helping it along nicely. I’d forgotten how atmospheric the first track is!

This is extremely exciting news and I am very much looking forward to reading and following this book series. Check out the post below, follow and if your research fits - get in touch! 👻 #Horror #FolkHorror #Hauntology #Spectres #Paranormal #HorrorSky #BookSky

This was a pressie from a friend who encourages my library obsession - I enjoyed it! If you’re a ‘library person’, you’ll probably like it too; there’s info on ancient libraries, libraries in remote & strange locations and even living libraries, in the form of donkeys, horses and camels! #amreading

Our cat sits in very strange positions sometimes…

I’ve just finished Myrrh by @polly_hall_writer - wow, what a book! It’s dark, lush and will definitely stay with you after you’ve finished it. It’s an exploration of adoption (and its far-reaching impact), family, motherhood and more. I recommend it highly! #amreading

David Lynch 😭😭😭 www.theguardian.com/film/2025/ja...

This was an excellent book! I hadn’t heard of the author before; she writes beautifully. It starts with a ghost, then goes in many directions I didn’t see coming, feeling more like an intense, sometimes shocking family drama, set across different times and places (U.K. and Australia). #amreading

This week’s work #weeknotes - www.linkedin.com/posts/lucy-b...

My latest read. This book of eight short stories from Mark Hadden (The Porpoise, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime) are essentially retellings of famous myths. I’m halfway through but I’d say it’s definitely worth a read! #amreading

Another fab selection of books from a dear friend - can’t wait to dive in! #amreading

After hearing Laura Bates speak so compellingly at our conference about #everydaysexism, I was really looking forward to reading her books for children. The first was a cracking read, all about a group of female knights in Arthurian times. Fun, but also thought provoking. #amreading

Wassailing, morris dancing and mummers! #folklore #twelfthnight

Birthday book haul - lucky Lucy! #amreading #folkhorror

Really enjoyed this one - YA, reminded me of Ishiguro; very restrained and quite a bit of magical realism. Explorations of grief, time and existing between zones. #amreading

Getting prepared by watching the original again…

My latest book (and maybe the last I’ll squeeze into 2024?!) - an advance copy of Til Death by Busayo Matuluko. I’m enjoying it so far, a very pacey and intriguing YA read! #amreading

“It is the summer of the soul in December” 🥰 Happy Christmas all!
