Good to help out on the @betterstreetsforbirmingham.org stall today in my new capacity as committee member. Good conversations about how to make our streets safer and share our space better.

My new workshop:small museums for mental health, is now live. I'll teach you how creating small museums alters brain biochemistry to improve mental health & we'll make small museums together 24 May,zoom, recording available afterwards Open to anyone, anywhere workshops.emmamitchell.uk/courses/smal...

“…the world does not revolve around car drivers…” Another ridiculous thing about living in Birmingham is that you can only book a slot at one of the recycling centres if you have a car. This excludes nearly a third of the city. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A shocking incident in which a young child was killed - and a family’s efforts to make the road where it happened safer. Can you help? www.change.org/p/for-leo-fo...

Uber taking over ad sites at New Street and taking advantage of the Easter weekend train cancellations 🤷🏼‍♀️

“Five top judges ruled that having a gender recognition certificate (GRC) does not change a person's sex in law. But they stressed that vital protections for the trans community were not being torn up.” www-mirror-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.mirr...

Early bus into town for #RSD2025. Went to Swordfish Records. As the heir to Rockers where I misused my early 80s Saturdays in search of Nick Rhodes, it seemed the best place to source Duran’s RSD release. A zoetrope! Need to set up my record player so I can spin it tho 🤦‍♀️

Once upon a time, Friday evenings were a dash home from work to catch 2-4-1 happy hour at the Clockhouse in Clapham, back into town to get Popstarz Q Jump tickets at the Retro followed by Popstarz itself 🏳️‍🌈 Now I’m just in the kitchen watching a TOTP from 1997 instead 😬

This driver, who sped almost *three times* the 30mph speed limit, who stopped briefly but drove off despite leaving a pedestrian with a catalogue of serious injuries resulting in them being comatose, should never be allowed behind the wheel again. 🔗 www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

Early start today! #trains

300 albums down. In our group there is remarkable consistency apart from some debate over hip hop. (I’m overjoyed that today’s album is Three Feet High and Rising taking me right back to seeing De La Soul in Manchester in 1989 😎) #1001AlbumsGenerator 1001albumsgenerator.com/shares/657b7...

New walking project! Looking forward to following in some ancient hoofsteps from mid Wales to Brum

Moving around on this city’s pavements is so frustrating. Why do I have to go down a steep muddy slope through a flower bed or make a big detour to get to the zebra crossing? What about people using mobility aids or pushing buggies? 🤦‍♀️

Britain’s pothole problem is driven more by heavy vehicles than heavy traffic

No one plans a stroke. It comes with enormous physical, emotional, and financial costs. Already, stroke survivors* struggle to access benefits like #PIP - and these cuts will leave more & more families affected by stroke & disability, with less & less. We must do better. *Cardiovascular disease 👇

V sad news that Eddie Jordan has died. He was a CLIC Sargent (now Young Lives vs Cancer) patron when I was Fundraising Director. He chaired the capital appeal for Paul’s House, accommodation for families whose children are being treated at UCLH & GOSH. www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk/what-we-do/a...

Perfect day for a jaunt to London. Long Acre and Langley Street enjoyably traffic-free

Pleased to support this campaign. “No Ball Games” signs should be removed. Children and young people should be encouraged to play outside safely and more space should be dedicated to games. youtu.be/ExxdGUny4EM?...

Absolutely agree. Enforcement is important but not the only part of the solution. Thinking better and differently about road use and design is vital.

Devastating. Again. I can’t understand why we’re not introducing a graduated licensing scheme for new drivers. Third teenager dies after fatal crash near Shifnal as victims named www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

🧵 1/ Wes Streeting suggests there's an *overdiagnosis* problem in mental health. A big & increasingly common claim. But in a country where people are waiting years for treatment, services overwhelmed, and 600,000 individuals with serious mental illnesses still being left behind, can it be true?

Aston Villa trio Marcus Rashford, Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa have all been included in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad, but Ollie Watkins - who picked up an injury on Wednesday night - is not involved. #AVFC

Useful reminder that it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure a safe working environment for everyone who works there.

Episode 2 of cheeky West Midlands beers with my dad. Today, the Craven Arms in Brum

How about we tackle pavement parking first folks Literally been driven into while walking on a pavement by someone in a rush to park on it, where's the PSPO for that? road.cc/content/news...

Been dusting off old newsletters ie updating links to X with screenshots or alternative sources. I'm far too tired to be writing yet another #IWD post so here's one I prepared earlier. As I wrote then, "in no field are women equal". Four years later, worse. www.changeout.org/every-day-is...
