8 year old just asked whether cats have "exposable" thumbs

It is 64° in a college town in the Midwest after a long winter which means one thing : no one is wearing any pants.

If you don't have at least one case that makes you want to quit your job daily, are you even a litigator?

In light of DOE's thuggish "Dear Colleague" letter (which, among other things, suggests that teaching about structural racism might violate civil rights law), here is an essay that I published recently mapping out 1st Amendment responses to educational gag orders. knightcolumbia.org/content/the-...

Folks on Instagram keep saying they are leaving and joining BlueSky - I'm like wow I can't believe this cheerful stay at home mom wants to join a platform that is exclusively bickering law professors and depressing posts about Ohio politics. But then I realized that is my bad oops

The Ohio Senate just unanimously concurred in the House's amendments to the anti-SLAPP bill. It's headed to the governor's desk. This is happening!

Good Monday morning reminder on my walk to court today.

👏GREAT NEWS! The Anti-SLAPP bill passed 76-0 in the Ohio House. Next, the Senate needs to concur with the amendments, which could happen as early as today. This is a bright spot in a very busy and chaotic #LameDuck. 🦆 www.cleveland.com/opinion/2024...

Housing advocates are optimistic Ohio lawmakers will put forth legislation to increase the supply of affordable housing during the next General Assembly. Ohio landlords filed nearly 108,000 eviction cases last year — the most since 2015. https://buff.ly/3ZsL6Gq

Reading a friend's book this afternoon and I am reading it with her voice narrating it in my head which is delightful. Highly recommend this one, even if you don't know Myrna well enough to have her voice in your head. www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/...

In a pro se writ case without oral argument, the Ohio Supreme Court, 4-3, overruled a 25-year-old decision on standing in civil cases. Two of the three dissenters will no longer be on the court in January. #AppellateSky Links to docket and opinion at article at the link card.

Food insecurity should not happen in the wealthiest country in the world, but it’s a sad reality. Consider the STL Foodbank on this Giving Tuesday. (Instead of legal fees, I have my friends’ teen drivers who need a ticket amended make a food bank donation.) secure.stlfoodbank.org/site/Donatio...

I'm going to repost all of your Giving Tuesday posts, one of my fav days of the year to learn about organizations doing great work. Who are you giving to this year?

The only thing we can do is fight. No better place to give today than the @pubintlawctr.bsky.social, the mightiest little civil rights law firm there is. pubintlaw.org/law-center-n...

#LegalEthics Tidbit: Does a lawyer have obligations on Giving Tuesday? Not specifically, but MA Rule 6.1 states that a lawyer should provide at least 25 pro bono hours “without compensation” or donate between $250 to 1% of their income to support legal services to the poor. lnkd.in/euJJNq4S
