And yet again they have nailed it beautifully youtu.be/pvT3aQjLxdE

It may all be madder than a bucket of frogs but it’s still the last day of meteorological winter and the birds are rinsing the foggy morning with song

Things wrong with the world that we rarely articulate #3471

Brilliant but devastating editorial in the Financial Times. “In the past 10 days, he [Trump] has all but incinerated 80 years of postwar American leadership. If you are not at the table, you are on the menu. America has turned.”

We received our bill for next financial year today. An increase of 16% on last year. To fund the huge salaries and dividends of companies charging us for something that should be a human right. Water belongs to all of us

We just need to give it a chance. If we focus our funding on countering our adverse impacts then in lots of places nature can do the rest

Never forget that when Seoul, Korea removed the Cheonggyecheon expressway in 2003 and replaced it with a restored stream, 1000 acre park and improved public transit, not only did it TRANSFORM the city’s public life and economic success, but the car traffic got better. The car traffic got BETTER.

Sea ice in the Arctic and around Antarctica cool our climate, drive ocean circulation across the planet, and provide a unique habitat for polar ecosystems. Sea ice amounts have now fallen to their lowest since we started measuring them. This is not good. 🌊🥼❄️🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

On Thursday night, Greens in Warwick beat one of those Reform UK Nigels in a by-election. Join @greenparty.org.uk to be part of more Thursdays like that as its all hands on deck now across the land.

This is so important and aligns with habitat creation and creating more nature friendly cities so it’s a win win

Yet more performative cruelty. This means someone who fled for their life 25 yrs ago, got refugee status in the UK, and has been part of their community here ever since - maybe married, had kids, started a business - can never be a citizen. That’s not right. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

First aconite of the year at freezing, windblown, wonderful St Abb’s head.

How often does this go unchallenged? At least this time its been called out

Beaver feels like a super timely conversation as we dwell in a land flowing with water we need to hold and fluxing carbon we need to sequester. Good to hear it on Today not just in all my channels

“A new study of early separated lane projects in the U.S. across six cities finds a rise of ridership between 21% and 171% after the lanes were installed.” The pretty strong and convincing case for protected bike-lane networks in cities. In @fastcompany.com

Just to remind anyone who has forgotten other parties are available. If you want Real Hope and Real Change dont be red, be Green www.theguardian.com/business/202...

This was genuinely news to me. Yet another humbling reminder of the hubris of thinking we understand even apparently straightforward issues www.ucl.ac.uk/news/2023/ma...

Sigh

After securing more than $1 million over the course of 7 years trying to build a dam to address water issues, officials were stymied by permitting issues. But then, beavers arrived. Featuring @bengoldfarb.bsky.social! 🧪 #mammals www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/arti...

We have to escape simplistic 20th-century ideas: Handy little example to use the next time someone tries to tell you "the genome is like a machine blueprint". Not quite "Lamarck was right", but certainly in the ballpark

The Iberian Lynx, one of world’s rarest cats, is no longer endangered in Spain and Portugal. "The increase is largely thanks to conservation efforts that have focused on increasing the abundance of its main food source - the also endangered wild rabbit..." www.bbc.com/news/article...

Keir Starmer says he trusts Donald Trump. I’ll just leave that with you before we play ‘which of the seven circles is this…’

I can’t understand why this hasn’t been a priority. It’s a win win, help everyone with electricity prices and naturally stimulate the switch from planet heating fossil fuels.

Extraordinary what has been achieved in Paris

Fire chiefs warn UK is not prepared for climate crisis impacts #Climate

On #WorldWetlandsDay, we celebrate those restoring Sussex’s marshes, floodplains, reedbeds, wet woodlands & wet meadows. Find out our groundbreaking collaboration across 27 farms and estates to revive 750ha of floodplain and riparian land in West Sussex. www.Adur-river-recovery.org

Wouldn't it be interesting if instead of using the word 'creation' they used 'natural development' instead. See my chapter in Great Misconceptions on natural regeneration rather than planting. @markavery.bsky.social @irishrainforest.bsky.social @landethics.bsky.social @craigbennett3.bsky.social 🌍🪶🌳

How about less billionaires? And instead more schools, hospitals and council houses? @greenparty.org.uk will always stand with the 99%. 👇🏼

Honestly I don’t know where to start #NoThirdRunway

The Government met today with 700 "business lobbyists." Guess who was amongst them?

We can easily spare a tenth of England for nature without affecting food production! 20% of our land produces just 3% of our food. Vast swathes of our uplands are owned by about 150 wealthy landowners who use it for shooting grouse, and set fire to our biggest carbon sink, our peat bogs...

"A region of the Pacific Ocean that’s larger than Switzerland is now fully protected from fishing, thanks to the creation of a massive new marine sanctuary in the Marshall Islands" More fantastic news for your Friday! www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/a....

Zack, LabTory is doing more harm than good. They are spent force, out of ideas, and out of their depth. They promised soo much but offer the same pain and sorrow as the Tories Thanks to ur words of encouragement, I have joined the Greens! It feels great to be part of a progressive movement again!

The biosphere is a whirling kaleidoscope of atoms and molecules passing through space and time. Some are currently in newts, some are in Rachel Reeves. What goes around comes around. In the end we are all stardust, destroy the living biosphere and we destroy ourselves

This is an astonishing statistic, which most people don’t appreciate. When we phase out fossil fuels, we can eliminate 40% of international shipping along with it.

When maximum sentence for chaining yourself to railings is over twice maximum sentence for racially aggravated assault, anyone who cares about justice should be appalled. This is a dangerous, undemocratic & disproportionate attack on longstanding right to peaceful protest in UK #DefendOurJuries

GALBA’s message for Rachel Reeves this morning - outside her constituency office in Leeds. Heathrow’s fight is our fight. #NoAirportExpansoion #FlyLess @flightfreeuk.bsky.social @theaef.bsky.social @nataliegreenpeer.bsky.social @neweconomics.bsky.social @staygroundednet.bsky.social

Today (29.1.25) @galba.uk held a protest outside the Constituency Office of Leeds West MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves in Bramley, Leeds over Rachel Reeves support for airport expansion - especially around a 3rd runway at Heathrow, which is expected to be confirmed in a speech today

Ok I give in. I’m going to the garden to eat worms. Metaphorical ones obviously, but there is still no better capturing of existential despair

I grew up under the Heathrow flight path. My bed shook when Concorde came in to land. Planes flew over our garden every minute and a half. You could often see three at a time. Even if we could afford the carbon and even if we needed more flights, this decision is certifiably insane. #NoThirdRunway

Disastrous decision on Heathrow. They're essentially saying “fly, baby, fly” to the developers who don’t give a fig about the climate emergency. The world is literally on fire and the arsonists are giving speeches.
