Pleased to see that Hickman and Chechetto's Ultimate Spiderman (2024-) continues to be quite good

Weather forecasts have become much more accurate. A four-day forecast today is as accurate as a one-day forecast 30 years ago.

A single injection of a drug, called lenacapavir, protects 96-100 percent of recipients from HIV for up to six months. It's the best HIV preventive ever made. To close out Issue 05, Kamal Nahas explains how Gilead made it & why getting it to those who need it will not be simple.🔻

One thing I admired Americans for was they provided efficient and effective aid for people around the world. I thought this made America great. The PEPFAR program saved plausibly about 25 million lives and prevented at least 5.5 million babies from being born with HIV. See: pepfarreport.org

#medsky#pedsky#idsky#immunosky 🧪 In the midst of all of the scary headlines recently, I thought I could take a moment to share a bit of good news: for the first time in history, a malaria vaccine with >90% efficacy seems to be within reach! Here’s why that’s a really big deal for EVERYONE 🧵

I'm aware of course of the general decline in crime in the 1990s, but just looking at the scale of it is jaw dropping. Our best estimate is that there were 2.4 million burglaries in 1993, which fell to 400,000 in 2023 www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...

as someone who grew up 15 minutes (and under flight paths) for DFW, the Heathrow third runway discourse is alien to me DFW has seven runways. It serves a population half that of London.

What did Junji Ito mean by this? 🤔

me after watching the Rocky movies for the first time recently: Rocky I had heart but Rocky IV had a talking robot.

Ralph Fiennes's full name

Heretic (2024) was okay but the part where Hugh Grant pulls out a copy of The Landlord's Game and then the remaining hour of the movie consists of him espousing the virtues of Georgism was an odd choice.

Why does Outlook suggest "my lips are sealed" as one of its default responses? Has anyone ever used this?

Made a starter pack for the loose 'effective altruism/rationality/forecasting/progress studies' (and adjacent) sphere - basically just accounts I found to be generally interesting and informative go.bsky.app/D5Y48DM

Pretty cool album from Bowman. "Vampire State", "Julia Verne", and "Your Majesty" particularly stood out to me.

Why didn't Batman do anything about this? Is he stupid?

Been really enjoying 'The Age of Em' by @robinhanson.bsky.social recently. Certainly a monumental achievement of a book, even if I didn't always find myself convinced by a particular argument. Would be interested to see more 'extremely in-depth speculative future exploration'-type books.
