I respond to questions about politics and my writing practice. Guess which I know most about? Yoshi the jack russell oversaw proceedings with a quiet dignity. Thank you Yoshi. www.patreon.com/posts/q-resp...

I'm so overwhelmed with everything that I can't divide things equally by two. I can't even.

Today's Word is: GRISAMBER Definition: The hypothetical color of the soul; a shimmering gray-amber color. Combines French "gris" (gray) and Arabic "anbar" (amber). Originated in medieval alchemical texts regarding the indescribable nature of the soul. Apparently it is describable - it's grisamber.

It's always been the case that "buying" an ebook from amazon was only actually a loan they could rescind at any point, but lately Amazon have gone harder on this, and it is 100% so that they can wipe banned books from your libraries without your consent. Buy direct from authors. Get your files.

A fun little book (spoiler: yes, the peasant does manage to seduce the entire nunnery, and with shocking ease). It even made me think some things. www.patreon.com/posts/eaten-...

My friend @aliettedebodard.com is going through hell, at the moment. The good egg that is @paulcornell.bsky.social has organized a gofundme so that I, and perhaps you, if you are so inclined, can give support. www.gofundme.com/f/helping-al...

A true story of supreme confidence, unbridled lust, deep thoughts about philosophy and theology, murderous professional jealousy, with a marriage, a castration, and attempted poisonings, all told through letters between two brilliant minds in love. I might delete this later, but today is my kid’s birthday and we have a tradition that is the best thing I have done, or will ever do, in my life. So I thought I’d share.

Hi all. After some recommendations. Looking for short stories featuring backroom/ liminal space, similar in tone to The Puppet Motel by @gemmafiles.bsky.social (which I loved). Thanks All!

Honestly, I relate to this SO HARD. (I mean, I have already read the book, but I want it to come OUT! I hate waiting! And yet...) Oof, 2025.

These are dark & disconcerting times for the environment and our future. I am reposting our 'Call for Fables'. Drop us a line if you can think of a fable that speaks to you at this moment (& please try writing a fable yourself, to make sense of what’s happening) research.kent.ac.uk/rethinking-f...

Good morning!☕️✌️

I am a maker of magic, and I need to remember that even (or perhaps especially) now, that is important. It's hard to create. But if I can share even a tiny glimmer, it's something. Tiny faery sketch I did over breakfast, 3x5in

My thoughts on the first book in the Penguin Classics 'Great Loves' series, for my Bookworm patrons. Have you read any of the classic epics? How was that for you? www.patreon.com/posts/doomed...

A photo of the Burroo, a sea stack off the Isle of Man. Colloquially, it’s called The Drinking Dragon.

An excellent example of nominative determinism:

SOO... I've suddenly got a proper budget to hire an illustrator for an upcoming TTRPG project I'm doing. Can't give much detail, except that I'm looking for artists who do either fantasy or western stuff (or both). If that's you, comment below or DM me with your rates and a link to your portfolio!

Pretty sick of my kids being funnier and smarter than me

I am basking in the sense of relief which follows a successful tax return submission. You can hate me all you want, but I am smug, smug, smug.

I've spent weeks down with a nasty cold/flu, followed by post-viral brain fog & fatigue -- so when I look at the backlog of work piled up on my desk, I feel exactly like the dogs in this picture look. The drawing is by Harriet, a Wiltshire artist whose work I love. Her website: madebyharriet.co.uk

And they say an image is worth a thousand words. #GiselePelicot (don't know the photographer unfortunately, but happy to credit if someone does know)

Every year, my friend Tim creates a Christmas card that stars his dog Olaf, who has a memorably mournful and whiskery little face. This year, I feel, he has surpassed himself.

A visualization of the razor thin margin of this election. Of the 244+ million voting-eligible population: 31.5% voted for Trump 30.6% voted for Harris 37.7% did not vote Popular is not a word that would accurately describe Trump or the MAGA movement.
