#WeeknightWriters It can be; most of the story is pretty grim, but I love the ending.

Right now I'm working on The Other Side. It's about a woman who becomes a succubus and has to deal with the various challenges that her transformation presents, all while trying to have as normal a life as possible. #WeeknightWriters

#WeeknightWriters I can keep writing, it's a little cliche perhaps, but there is something to it. Broadly speaking, it's a case of fixing the things I can and not trying to fix the things that are out of my control.

#WeeknightWriters One of my characters, Elle. She's the person who accidentally becomes a succubus. Even though she's made up, we're so alike that she helps me feel less alone.

#WeeknightWriters Better than I thought, but considering the fact that I'm trans and I live in the most transphobic provinces in Canada rn, I'm still a bit of a mess.

Can't sleep, might as well explain how to accidentally become a succubus (or lilin to use the gender neutral term). In my story, The Other Side, you need two things: they need to be feeding on you, and you need to drink their blood. @jaxwolffwrites.bsky.social

#WeeknightWriters I think it has something to do with the fact that I tend have a really hard time "killing my darlings", when those "darlings" happen to be trans. In the end, I don't write them in a way that makes for a good story.

#WeeknightWriters You mentioned sensitivity readers earlier, that would be very helpful. That would help, but so would being able to pour over accounts of real people; fiction is often a "remix" of the real world and how the author sees it.

#WeeknightWriters I would love to write a trans character. Despite being trans myself they don't really show up in my stories.

#WeeknightWriters I tend to agree, but for different reasons. Queer people come from all societies, cultural back grounds, and social strata to necessarily be written a certain way.

#WeeknightWriters Not really. Based on my lived experience queer and cishet people can overlap quite a bit. My main concern when writing a character is that their actions match their beliefs and motivations.

#WeeknightWriters The protagonist was always intended to be queer because she's a pretty shameless self-insert of me. As every succubus being kind of pansexual, that evolved on its own.

#WeeknightWriters Depends on how you count. All succubi are pansexual when feeding, but can have more specific romantic preferences.

#WeeknightWriters I'm Emily, I've been writing for about 17 years now (unpublished). I primarily write something like erotic horror, but I'm not too attached to that label. My WIP is called the other side, and it's about a closeted lesbian who accidentally becomes a succubus.
