Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

Join me as I ride The Floridian, @amtrak.com 's epic new 47-hour route. Here are the Siemens Charger locomotives during our "stretch-and-smoke" stop in Jacksonville. I followed in the high-heel footsteps of Tony Curtis + Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot as they fled #Chicago for #Miami... 🚂🧵

If you would like to learn how to do this kind of writing, I will teach you. I will, if you have no money, do it for free. I will, if you have some money, invite you to my "writing coach" patreon. I will, if you have an institutional budget, charge a fair workshop rate. Lollardfish @ gmail.

By the way, the detail from an AI-using teacher: 161 students in classes of 36+, is enraging. You wonder why students are writing less? Because infrastructure and decision-makimg kneecaps good instruction at every turn.

I cancelled my subscription, so I can't read these pieces, but based on the headlines alone it seems The Atlantic is still on the baby train. Legacy media can't help helping RW extremists push pronatalism.

The ass-backward response to students' reading and writing less due to tech? Use more tech. "The increase of artificial intelligence and technological advances in U.S. classrooms has challenged English teachers to adapt their reading lessons and writing assignments."

The extreme pronatalists in the MAGA movement appear to win a victory against the extreme anti-abortion wing. The broligarchs will give conservative Christians only what also benefits them. Lots of overlap in the Venn but not one complete circle.

"Some organizations are racing to embrace AI before it is reliable enough to put in unsupervised contact with people." In schools, these people are mostly children.

Yes, we are forced to explain this. Teachers have been having to stand up at Board of Ed meetings and explain it for decades.

Despair is worse than hope and naivete is called boldness when the broligarchs do it. Pls don't crap on people's desire to see good prevail where it can rn.

"Indeed, in addition to undercutting the separation of church and state, these laws and initiatives pushed by MAGA-aligned figures—whether politicians, organizations, or individual parents—end up superimposing religious regulations onto local schools and districts."

It's good to take time off when the existential dread sets in. As our ancestor Dr. Angelou once said, "We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated." We will not lose.

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

America is already way better at death--by guns, cars, and more--than are other developed nations. I guess this is where MAGA decided to maintain our leadership.

Blown away by this remarkable resource on the far right prepared by @janetbufton.ca and @tomgpalmer.bsky.social and published in @theunpopulist.net. We published Part I last fall. Today, we give you Part II. Read the whole thing. It's incredible.

The purge of career military officers loyal to the Constitution has begun. This is a necessary and inevitable step towards turning the military against citizens who oppose Trump's dictatorship: apnews.com/article/trum...

The cars keep lurching to the far right.

Update on once-disappeared Ryan Borgwardt, charged with obstruction and now in receipt of divorce papers...

"AI adoption is a mix of virtue signaling and panic purchasing. Universities aren’t paying for AI—they’re paying for the illusion of control...that if they adopt AI at scale, they can manage how students use it, integrate it seamlessly into teaching and learning, and somehow future-proof education."

It's Not About Waste or Fraud, example #22125:

After years of austerity the TX house wants to pass an inadequate bribe to oil the voucher bill.

As scholars of separation of powers and republican government, we write that these attacks on our government are unprecedented...Trump’s actions are best summed up as “unrepublican,” violating the republican system of government that Madison envisioned. washingtonmonthly.com/2025/02/21/m...

Trump and his followers have been busy trying to privilege their worldview—including its religious elements—in K-12 education. Here's a sampling, compiled by @lutzfernandez.bsky.social, of recent efforts they've undertaken across the United States. www.theunpopulist.net/p/trump-is-n...

If you still have friends/family who think this administration will help them, talk to them about money....

School choice is a scam.

For many older Americans who live in assisted living or memory care facilities -- like my father -- telehealth is essential. The outcomes will be that many older adults will simply not seek or receive medical care. They really want to kill us all. Call your reps. (202) 224-3121

“Public education is being wrested by MAGA from local control, bringing Christianity into the public schools and breaking down barriers between church and state.”
