And so summer has began! I had a wonderful time at the Alaska Aleutian in Anchorage last week. Lots of fun science conversations, great new connections, and amazing sights in and around Anchorage!

You know you work at the COOLEST place when you randomly get to hold pieces of the MOON and MARS at the same time ;)

Brushing off the cobwebs here! 🕸️👋 Spring flew by in a blur: events at the Smithsonian, talks at UBC, UC Riverside, UMD, & a GSW poster at Carnegie (yes, I’ve been talking a lot). Now bracing for the summer travel + conference sprint. Excited for science, snacks, and hopefully fewer airport delays!

The next EGU Campfire fo the GMPV division is in one week! January 23rd at 4pm CET 🌋 This time we have @luud.bsky.social, Melanie Sieber and Jessy Dominique. Register to the talks by using this link 👇 blogs.egu.eu/divisions/gm...

When Solimões and Rio Negro meet, they become the massive Amazon river. But because of their difference in density, they don’t mix right away. I don’t think liquid immiscibility can get any more clear than that!

The Smithsonian Mineral Science fellows ;) This crowd is amazing and I can’t explain how much fun (and snacks lol) we have in the office every day. Glad to be part of this amazing group of young scientists and grateful for all the super inspiring and funny chats we had the past few months!

So is there really no ice breaker at #AGU24 tonight? Where’s everyone hanging out?

Super excited to see everyone here arriving in DC! Welcome, everyone! Looking forward for a fun week with friends and cool science! #AGU24 ⚒️🧪

So who is coming to DC for #AGU2024 this weekend?? Shout if you any help or tips for getting around in DC! Also shout if y’all are already getting beers before the conference cause I’m READY 🌝

⚒️ So I made a feed! It tracks some of the geo-focussed weekly hashtags that have migrated here from Twitter, like #ThinSectionThursday, #FossilFriday and #FridayFold. Focussing on hashtags where people share pretty and interesting rocks and landscapes. If there are more I should add, let me know!

Who will be at #AGU24 ? Raise your hand! Levanta la manito 🙋🏽‍♀️ I'm working on the GeoLatinas presentation with Danita, @caroll03.bsky.social , @luud.bsky.social , Dariana, @malenaoa.bsky.social , Gaby, & adding a slide about our connection space (Pods), come see us! #GeoLatinasAroundTheWorld

I analysed ~300 apatites and they all look the same

Here is a very useful starter pack for all things mineralogical! #Mineralogy #Minerals go.bsky.app/3Z5SFJr

I feel like this card is attacking me 😭 🧪

Not me submitting a bunch of stuff in the last possible day again

Idk about y’all but sometimes I feel like I gotta do everything for my data but my data doesn’t do anything for me ✨ toxic ✨

Sharing this amazing list of geolatinas in this platform! Feel welcome to add more names and pass along to your network: @caroll03.bsky.social @caballerogill.bsky.social @miriam-rslm.bsky.social @adriguatame.bsky.social @luud.bsky.social @francypants.bsky.social

All scientists are mad. If that doesn’t seem like it to you, it’s because you’re mad too 🫢

Will I ever get used to people emailing me to ask my help/my opinion? I try my best to help but deep inside I’m screaming for them to stop putting so much weight into my opinions I am basically a 6 yo 😭

The Old Rag Granite at Shenandoah National Park… I’ll have to admit I like granites a lot better when I am not struggling to hike them before the sun sets 🥲 Virginia views are always 10/10 tho ✨

Sooo excited to see more and more people from science Twitter migrating here!! Welcome y’all!!

Columnar joins and amazing fall colours today at the Shenandoah National Park!
