just actually breathtaking how aggressive the editorial advocacy is here. in alignment with other anti-trans media and campaigners, it sweeps away all policy history and context outside of its preferred "trans rights are a recent, unpopular overreach from a baseline of nonrecognition" argument.

The absolute full-court press from media + elites on behalf of Cuomo demonstrates yet again that when they want to make something a story -- not just "cover it," but pound on it until it sinks in as a public narrative -- they know exactly how.

Still fuming about @tinakotek.bsky.social trying to scuttle Preschool for All. Keeping a close eye on this little last-minute effort in the Leg, which would have massive implications for ALL Oregonians. Do we want to cede local control in the Trump 2 era??? olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2025R1/M...

That Governor @tinakotek.bsky.social would even entertain these conversations is sneaky and disgusting

@tinakotek.bsky.social is trying to tank the universal preschool measure that voters passed 2-1 because the 10 wealthiest people in the county want her to. We can't let that happen. Families lives are already changing for the better because of PFA, and more will join them if we let it grow.

Follow this account & stay tuned for ways you can support Preschool for All & protect local control of local policy & revenue from the Governor and the 1%. Tina Kotek's closed-door scheming has implications far beyond this program (so if you hate kids you can still care!!!!) bsky.app/profile/frie...

This. Entire. Thread👇‼️‼️

Kotek is a really poor governor & now just doing direct service for rich people by trying to bully local governments.

The program’s longtime enemies aren’t strictly anti-tax. They sustain their operations through a tax-like mechanism facilitated through the City of Portland. They like tax collection just fine. What they’re against is the social contract that grants taxpayers a say in how tax revenues are spent.

This is terrible. Gov. @tinakotek.bsky.social, don't carry water for the rich crybabies who don't want to pay taxes. Show up for the rest of us who struggle to pay for childcare, and for a fantastic program that serves EVERYONE.

Preschool for All is under attack! We're sounding the alarm, and we need your help. Visit our website to learn more and stay updated. friendsofpfa.org

I just used @resist.bot to tell @tinakotek.bsky.social Hands Off Universal Preschool.

Democrat Governor Kotek seizing on this moment to be just cartoonishly evil.

Wrote Kotek, my state senator, and the state senate president. What makes it worse: OR Senate just passed a bill cutting state-funded early childhood education programs by 2%. When more money is needed just to fully fund existing commitments. It’s maddening.

This is so horrifying. This moment is one that requires some strategic reflection from all of us, to think critically about how we can actually achieve ICE abolition in Oregon and across the country. First: let the experiences of people impacted be the drivers of strategy.

I don't have enough words to convey my disgust for what @tinakotek.bsky.social is trying to do to our hard-won universal preschool program on behalf of the millionaire & billionaire class of Portland (or its suburbs, more accurately). 🧵 www.wweek.com/news/schools...

@tinakotek.bsky.social HANDS OFF PRESCHOOL FOR ALL!

YIKES. @tinakotek.bsky.social wants to weaken tax on the rich, which funds preschool for all. Why does Kotek think the rich need a tax cut? www.wweek.com/news/schools...

I will continue to scream from the rooftops that the number one thing stopping people who want to have families from starting them is the absolute disdain American policymakers have for young families.

As a parent who experienced transition at our school to Preschool for All, it is an incredibly effective program and the roll out will take time and can't be derailed by people looking for a tax cut!

I'll have more to say tomorrow, but I'll note that we observe an increasing share of higher income earners in the county - a class who is often referred to as our tax base, and who is apparently fleeing due to this tax. Chart by economist Mary King.

“The wealthy are leaving Multnomah county over the high taxes!” is a straight up lie! Hands off Preschool for All, Governor Kotek!!!

Preschool for All is the primary reason Multnomah County is no longer a child care desert. Still, just 50% of children age 3-5 have access to a regulated slot. MultCo needs almost 4,000 more slots to meet the need.

If you think young families are more important to a vibrant Portland than a few wealthy people who are "fleeing" (spoiler, they're not fleeing), then you need to support Preschool for All. Likewise if you're concerned about declining public school enrollment.

The main reason my partner & I haven’t started a family is we can’t afford to. Programs like Preschool for All give me hope we could someday, providing a strong incentive to live here. If wealthy special interests dismantle this resource, just might have to move somewhere that supports families.

Tina Kotek is not a progressive - she’s firmly in the corporate democrat camp and she’s skated on a lot of criticism because of the horrific era we’re in. Make no mistake - the next Oregon governor cannot be more right wing. We need a real progressive governor.

This REALLY shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s not living under a rock, or doesn’t have a myopic outlook on politics. Tina Kotek is actively trying to undermine the universal preschool program, because she’s bought & paid for by Oregon oligarchs. She’s a Democratic corporatist, through & through. 👇🏾

Here's the date on this btw: drive.google.com/file/d/1gd3I...

So not only has she been privately lobbying JVP, the Governor is steering a last-minute effort to jam "SB 106" through the legislature to literally obstruct the democracy of our county & prevent us from funding something we voted for, with implications that range far beyond this program. Stay tuned.

Not only will the ultra-wealthy NEVER leave over Preschool 4 All, but blinking on this sets a dangerous precedent that we will backslide on anything the Ritz-Carlton class asks for. Not an inch.

They ALWAYS threaten to leave when you say you'll tax them and they never actually do. This is a consistent thing that has played out multiple times across the country AND here. Disappointed in @tinakotek.bsky.social for even considering capitulation to such a naked attempt at extortion.
