If I hadn't strayed off the path to have a good view of a rookery on Critchell estate just before I got back to my car, I wouldn't have seen what I have been looking for all day. A black oil beetle, Meloe proscarabaeus, and this one has the strongly kinked antennae of the male

Looked up 11.30 this morning while supervising conifer pruning in my Corfe Mullen garden to see a pair of White -tailed Eagles floating overhead over the Waterloo Valley.Rushed indoors for camera but they were well on their way north ,probably to WykeDown @harbourbirds.bsky.social

Three Buff tailed bumbles in the garden today. One in my wild patch,who then climbed a buddliea trunk.I carried it to a ambumble mahonia, where it had a little rest after investigating just buds so I helped it to open flowers and it happily fed for 10 mins .Then 2 others turned up❤️🐝#Bees

@bto-gbw.bsky. regarding Redwings can I point out that I used to get Redwings regularly a few years ago as I have 4 Large Hollies in my garden but due to not being able to deter increasing numbers of wood pigeons the berries are devoured early on by these garden pests leaving nothing for Redwings.
