NEW: The Trump administration is exploiting a loophole to keep funding frozen at the NIH - a move that some legal scholars say is illegal. Federal Register notices are blocked, so no grant-review sessions can be scheduled. All the gritty details here, and a short 🧵: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Join us! Science Homecoming helps scientists reconnect with communities by writing about the importance of science funding in their hometown newspapers. We’ve mapped every small newspaper in the U.S. and provide resources to get you started. Help science get back home 🧪🔬🧬 🏠 sciencehomecoming.com

Thank you! There is a simple thing to do: You can call up your local newspaper and TV station and offer to talk about what is happening.

It’s been buried in all the news today, but every scientist in the US should pay attention to this: Mike Lauer went out on a limb for us all, sending out a memo saying institutes should start awarding grants. And it looks like Trump/Musk fired him for that. 🧪

Senator Ted Cruz recently released a database of more than 3000 NSF grants that he says misappropriated taxpayer money by spending it on "woke DEI" research. So why do grants that seemingly have nothing to do with woke ideology contain words such as "underrepresented"?

Here we go #psyscisky #academicsky

#NIH just slashed indirect costs caps on grants to 15%--this is a HUGE blow to the research community. While there is certainly inefficiency to the grants system, indirects help institutions support scientists & academic infrastructure. No one will want to do research anymore. #medsky #academicsky

I will always choose resistance as faculty (and in general). Education drives progress. I will NOT let this insecure felon and his bumbling cronies stand in the way of educating, questioning, resisting, and doing the work to dismantle oppressive practices! #AcademicSky #Resist #DEI #FacultySky

Censor CDC scientists and ask them to withdraw papers from medical journals? This is not how it works, Mr President. Our response @bmj.com on the Trump Executive Order and his "forbidden words" www.bmj.com/content/388/...

As a tenured prof @ a private institution, I believe I have an obligation to speak out on issues that my colleagues at other institutions or in more tenuous positions cannot. If you have privilege & protections, use that to preserve our rights and freedoms. 1/ #AcademicSky #PolisciSky #CivMilSky
