Tracking back: I have 3 of 4 grandparents U.S. born; of 8 great-grandparents, 4 U.S., 3 Canada, 1 Germany-born. SMc has 4 U.S.-born grandparents, maybe 2 of 8 great-grandparents U.S.-born. Zero documentation for any of this. I am curious to see what the courts say about this new policy proposal.

To switch to a Jus Sanguinis principle of citizenship would require documenting the citizenship of parents, possibly even grandparents, again with documentation based on Jus Soli/14th Amendment. Since most of us have immigrant heritage that is mixed, how do we thread that needle?

How do we "prove" our American citizenship without the 14th Amendment foundation? Birth certificate? A passport? The passport application form asks date and place where you were born and requires you to submit a birth certificate. All of this is based on Jus Soli (birthplace) citizenship.
