Seems like the relevance of this Reagan-era Herblock cartoon has risen by 200%. Washington Post, 12/22/1988.

Differentiation shouldn't be one-size-fits-all. Neither should test prep. Join "The Importance of Accommodations within Test Prep" and discover how to create test prep resources that work for every student in your classroom—not just some of them. Save your spot before they're gone → bit.ly/4bjv9Ic

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

When you are working on your schedule for skeets for @quizizz.bsky.social and your hound has other ideas! 😂 Can't wait to share out some of the ways I use this tool in my language learning classroom, assuming she approves!

As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

If you’re a federal worker looking for a good accomplishment to share with Elon, tell him you responded to texts from the mother of your children.

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

Here’s what is going on. When you start firing the military’s top lawyers, that means you are getting ready to order the military to do unlawful things. Trump replaces those JAGs with men who will justify any future unlawful and unethical actions that he wants the military to do.

As long as it’s a book that does not promote social justice, anti-racism, LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, accurate American history, immigrants in a positive portrayal. What else am I missing?

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

“At least Russia has elections” Russia frequently jails and kills any opposition to Putin, who has been in power since 1999. If you like dictatorships, that’s fine. Just admit that. Don’t insult anyone’s intelligence—including your own—by claiming Russia has real elections.

I am not making this up: Republicans have introduced legislation… to increase your bank fees.

Give students ownership of their progress by assigning Mastery mode assignments in @quizizz.bsky.social Students can see their % accuracy improve as they work and revisit items they have missed. @alanacolabella.bsky.social #youcanwithQuizizz

This weasel actually insists it’s a “longstanding norm” that only the president or his attorney general can say “what the law is” which is, of course, absolute garbage.

In 2019, RFK Jr visited Samoa to spread anti-vax lies, spurring a measles outbreak that led to the deaths of 83 people - mostly children. We can’t let that tragedy repeat in Texas. The MMR vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles. Let’s stop the spread. www.cbsnews.com/news/texas-m...

Another way this feels similar to COVID — the disaster is already unfolding but the people in charge seem to think it’ll only impact “blue” areas.

I'm watching Canadian officials hold a presser on the Toronto plane crash and remarkably they're not blaming DEI or recklessly speculating about causes. They could never cut it down here in Trumplandia.

All my life I have studied democratization and autocratization. My 1st field trip was to newly democratic Argentina. I then added autocracies to my portfolio: Cuba, Ven, etc. I think I can recognize the stages of transition to authoritarianism. Here are the boxes Trump has already checked off.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

Fellow teachers! Help Monise out with her survey!

Have you heard about the SAVE Act? It's the newest effort at voter suppression by the House GOP & it's important for all of us. If you're a married woman or someone who doesn't have their birth certificate/passport handy, you're especially going to want to see this. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

chat, is this good?

This is horrifying but not even shocking at this point.

Almost as if they were agents of a hostile foreign power sent to infiltrate our government for that very purpose

This is a good time to remind everyone that this administration hasn't done anything for anyone. It has literally only taken away things we've already paid for and fired and sued people. Oh and the quid pro quo with Adams. That's the extent of what they have done. Kinda nuts.

Federal employees: this is why you need to download and take home all your performance reviews and HR documents (eOPF). Documentation of good performance may not get you your old job back but you want to be able to show future employers the true story

ZELENSKYY: The risk that Russia will occupy Europe is 100 percent WELKER: If the US pulls out of NATO, Russia will occupy Europe? ZELENSKYY: Yes

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: an administration (and its supporters) who believe that they are not limited by the rule of law have no moral or philosophical claim to the protection of the rule of law. “The law is whatever we say it is” warrants the same in response.

If RFK wants to meaningfully decrease rates of depression, he can support paid family and maternity leave, equal pay for women, universal healthcare, and fully funded public schools. Stigmatizing medication that treats the mental impact of a country that devalues your existence won’t cut it.

Editorial note: fascism is not insanity, and the language of mental illness should not be used to describe the hearts and minds of evil men.

“We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests,” President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, January 6, 1941

Trump & Musk are trying to fire 100,000+ civil servants right now - including over 1,000 VA employees. Purges are happening at SBA, Energy, Education & more. Firing this many critical employees at once could make it impossible for our government to provide BASIC services.

This week, approximately 200,000 federal workers have been let go.

Great AMA from Reddit from historian Craig Johnson about fascism. www.reddit.com/r/AskHistori...

From Sen. McConnell's statement on RFKj "I will not condone the re-litigation of proven cures, and neither will millions of Americans who credit their survival and quality of life to scientific miracles."

#Measles spreads easily when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. Measles can affect anyone, but is most common in children. Vaccination with two doses of measles vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your community bit.ly/2PxcYsj

my view is that as soon as the administration froze disbursement of congressional appropriations we entered constitutional crisis territory
