The world’s richest man is destroying humanitarian assistance to the world’s poorest

Anyone who writes about US "leadership" in global health needs to seriously pause and ask exactly what leadership means

Scientific institutions have a long history of anticipatory obedience www.chemistryworld.com/opinion/scie...

On the third anniversary of Paul Farmer's passing, let's reflect on his legacy of hope as a revolutionary force of change. By @madhupai.bsky.social 👇🏾

Nobody is rushing in to fill the funding gap left by the US “It’s important for us in the global south to imagine an international coordination of emergency preparedness and response without the United States.” @deisyventura.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/h...

Very heartened to see this. And proud to be working with @plos.org

PLOS, JAMA, and The Lancet have made these kinds of important statements standing on principle. Any others?

Thank you PLOS! I see you.

It boggles my mind that this is unfolding in the United States: moms and babies are dying because of abortion bans www.propublica.org/article/texa... www.reuters.com/world/us/inf...

Particularly happy today to be on team @plos.org 👏

Three years since we lost our North Star, Dr. Paul Farmer, but PIH continues to fight the fight for health equity and social justice.

Thank you @madhupai.bsky.social for honoring our beloved Paul.

Currently at the #CUGH2025 conference in Atlanta. A real joy of this otherwise strange time is running into wonderful colleagues, who I've admired and been inspired by for such a long time. So wonderful to see you, Beryne Odeny and @nasadoc.bsky.social ! ❤️

PLOS Global Public Health editors spotted at the #CUGH2025 meeting!

Proud to work in this organization that puts unwavering support of its communities, open, independent science and scientific integrity front and center

PLOS remains committed to the principles of #OpenScience: integrity, transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration. Recent policy changes in the U.S. raise concerns about the impact on the global research community and scientific integrity. Read the statement: plos.io/3D4O8cH

Today is Dr Paul Farmer's 3rd death anniversary A good day to remember the lessons he taught us, even as we face the chaos caused by the US administration's attacks on science, and global health www.forbes.com/sites/madhuk...

I've also been thinking about Paul Farmer a lot these days. What would Paul say? I think I know - but I just want to hear it! A moving tribute here. Though I suspect Paul would add something about his growing concerns about planetary health... #medanthro #globalhealth #histstm

"His work was built on the belief that we are not powerless against systemic injustice; we can push back. Paul taught us that while structural barriers are real, they can be dismantled, and that requires passion, patience, and a commitment to solidarity." #resist

Ditto. Thx, @madhupai.bsky.social. It helps to hear more of Paul’s words reverberating. We can & will continue to fight for equity. Paul left us a roadmap. Folks living the consequences of US abuses today will keep us on track if we listen to them.

Thanks to @madhupai.bsky.social for doing this. Wish Paul was still here to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of us. www.forbes.com/sites/madhuk...

“Against the grain of complacency, many Paul Farmers have kept walking with others, speaking up, and living the moral obligation of ensuring social justice and healthcare access for all, with a preferential option for the poor. This wins. This counters our failures of imagination," -B. Alayande

An excellent piece that offers hope. Perhaps Paul Farmer would say this piece itself is “an antidote to despair” for all of us in #GlobalHealth and beyond.

So many great lines from Paul Farmer shared by his friends in this inspirational piece, but this one is my favourite: “Paul would often quip, ‘History does not begin when you show up.”
