The final stretch for @melvinzed.bsky.social Mad Max 2 crowdfunding event for the ultimate Mad Max 2 book! Plenty of perks for supporters, tons of info in the book alone. It ends in about 3 hours so that's your last chance! fr.ulule.com/mad-max-2--l...

Happy 80th birthday to George Miller!

I've been given a glimpse into Dementus' backstory backed with some old Furiosa documents and now I'm going crazy trying to piece it all together. Dementus is a FASCINATING character.

I believe this is one of the earliest if not the earliest depiction of Dementus. Made for Furiosa Anime by Mahiro Maeda around 2009. That was back when he had a giant scar on his head stapled together with metal stitches. That idea later moved to Mr Norton's head.

One of early Furiosa War Rig designs by Shane Baxley. This one's based on Kenworth 953 and it's absolutely filthy.

One of the things about Fury Road is that its setting is so barren that it could be mistaken for a different planet. But at an early design stage they planned on showing us the remains of the old world. Almost ancient-like structures that once were a city. I really wish they'd kept it in.

Melvin Zed's Mad Max 2 book (in French) crowdfunding is now live! Feel free to chip in for the ultimate MM2 book, 496 pages full of Mad Max goodness, George Miller loved the 1st book, I'm sure he'll love this one as well :) English translations for both MM1 and MM2 books are in the works as well!

Unfortunately no Oscar nominations for Furiosa.

Max had absolutely no chill in earlier drafts of Fury Road.

The design process in this franchise is fascinating. More often than not it's an extrapolation from an established set of rules. In this case - Dementus' monster truck started out as a simple pickup that evolved off screen. The final design ended up looking different but followed the same rules.

See this guy? A real asshole, according to Terry Gibson (the guy in a trench coat). The day before filming he was threatening to put out a cigarette on Terry's eye. Terry let it go, but he learned his character was going to rough him up. So he did it - for real with a few kicks to the gut.

Mel Gibson's home went up in flames as well. people.com/mel-gibson-m...

Sad news from Hollywood. Vernon Wells who played Wez in Mad Max 2 had just lost his house and everything he had in Los Angeles wildfires. Despite this loss, he said it would not break his spirit. We're hoping he recovers quickly and to everyone in the area: please stay safe.

David Collins (Smeg) just casually mime-murdering extras on the set of #furiosa

Heads up! Crowdfunding event for @melvinzed.bsky.social Mad Max 2 book starts on January 24th. One of the goals is to fund the English translation so the whole world can enjoy this work art, and you best believe it will be well worth it. More info coming soon!

I've been posting a lot about Furiosa lately, so it's time to bring it back to the very origins of Mad Max. This here is a true piece of history. An artifact, a promotional comic book drawn by George Miller himself to sell potential investors on the idea of a movie he was about to make - Mad Max.

Dane Hallett dropping Furiosa concept art like we'll never going to get an official art book. Which I don't think we will, so kudos to him! Here are some of his ideas on the War Rig. BTW don't you think it should've had a unique name? It's strange that it doesn't.

Happy New Year! Here's a little montage to kick things off in 2025! Stay Shiny and Chrome! #madmax (Truckfighters - Desert Cruiser)

Praetorian Jack is not the only wasteland hottie out there. Behold: Chumbucket. His hobbies are cars, automobiles and vehicles, in his spare time he does shameful things with his ratchet set. #madmax #furiosa

A few early designs by Jenny Beavan:

Merry Christmas from Dementus! #furiosa

A few Roobilly designs from the concept art/costume department on Furiosa: (originally posted by Jenny Beavan, not sure who the concept artists are). #furiosa #madmax

Absolutely amazing concept art of High Master Black Thumb by Dane Hallett. He envisioned this mechanic with MS-like disease that left him almost completely disabled and communicating via strange device connecting his head to his hand. I wish they'd used it in the film... #furiosa #madmax

Max to The Future 2

Hideo Kojima snatched Melvin's book, as expected :) Congrats dude!

It is finally here! The Japanese translation of the ultimate Mad Max1 book by @melvinzed.bsky.social "Mad Max: Ultraviolence In The Cinema Part 1" is now available on Amazon! The translation was done by Ryo Shinagawa & supervised by a huge Mad Max fan Tomokiyo Shiraishi. Only 1500 copies available!

You know, with how iconic this series is it's funny to learn how George Miller rated those films up until Fury Road: Mad Max 1 - 2/10 Mad Max 2 - 6.5/10 Mad Max 3 - his favorite (as of 1988). I mean he later said that Furiosa is his favorite, but still.. he really doesn't like Mad Max 1

Mad Max films have a gigantic amount of lore hidden away from the audience. In this case, Matt Hatton explained the origin of this Roobilly helmet. It was made from an obese guy's head involving the 'Beauchene' process that split it apart and put it back together. The more you know!

The two Georges that made Beyond Thunderdome. BTW it's a complete myth that Miller did only action and Ogilvie did dialogue. #madmax #thunderdome

Four years ago we've lost Hugh Keays-Byrne, our Toecutter and Immortan Joe. May he roam the highways of Valhalla. R.I.P. #madmax #furyroad

Even though those are consecutive shots, they come from two completely different scenes spliced together! There is a big chunk of the film missing which is about - and I'm dead serious - Sprog breaking out of his high chair, playing with Max's gun ,eating .38 bullets and crapping them out. #madmax

Mad Max is 90% off on Steam! Get it now if you haven't already!

The History People are often regarded as wise and eloquent keepers of knowledge, but they were never meant to be infallible. In fact, the one in Furiosa was a bit of an idiot in early treatments - he didn't even know what an orange is (orange was later replaced with peach)

Originally, Morsov was a more prominent character in Fury Road. He was getting blood from Max and died a different death trying to take down the Buzzard Excavator. He failed and was mocked by Slit. In the final movie he took out a Buzzard vehicle & was still mocked by Slit as per old script #madmax

The unforgettable Tina Turner would've been 84 today. R.I.P, Aunty.

In case you're wondering how they really got on the Gigahorse... They were not climbing the wheels. There was a whole car with airport-style stairs for that. #madmax #furyroad #gigahorse
