I'm stuck in a Grading Doom Loop, and I am reminded of how unhelpful our current system of grading and feedback is for students at pretty much all levels.

Another noteable outcome from the NYC race: the dismal performance of Dems for Education Reform founder Whitney Tilson. Influential centrists/edu abundos insist that Dems need to run like Michael Bloomberg (charters! go hard at unions). Tilson did and he got .8 % of the vote

Several years ago I bought cards from @tressiemcphd.bsky.social that read "The Institution Cannot Love You" and boy oh boy do academics need to relearn that one every five minutes.

Please don’t threaten me with a good time

I know it's the least of our beefs with them, but why does the New York Times still have automatically playing videos on their homepage? Who is watching those?

Lord have mercy.

One thing about the northeast that is wild to me is that public school districts are required to transport kids going to private schools.

Oh.

The conservative movement is lying about basically every empirical "debate" of our time, from climate change to voter fraud to vaccines. Why is it so impossible for reactionary centrists to contemplate the possibility they're lying about trans healthcare too?

“It doesn’t provide protection for people who sincerely don’t agree with gay marriage.” Yes, John, that's the point. virginiamercury.com/2025/06/18/j...

Today is a good day to support the Trevor Project. Trained counselors who understand the challenges LGBTQ+ young people face are available for support 24/7. www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help/

It's really mind boggling that more people do not understand this.

How are schools justifying banning cell phones and embracing "AI" -- or are they just pretending it's not contradictory?

Hi friends- need some last minute help! I'm the section chair of AERA's Div L Educational Policy and Politics Section 6 Social Policy, Inequality, and Student Outcomes - and I need a few more volunteers to review submissions for next year's conference. Please let me know if you'd be open to it!

Women on life support have fewer rights than a man's corpse in this country, and apparently that's just fine with the chatterers.

I think it would be good if more of the folks who have been concerned about chronic absenteeism took some type of action against these raids.

Saturday proved how much energy there is. Put it to good use: See if you have a school board election this November. Then see if you have a pro-public education candidate running. If so, work in that campaign. If not, if it's not too late, recruit one. And start working on the next election now!

If we're heading into summer that means academic job market season is looming. As a reminder, my collected tips are here (along with my standing offer to set up time to chat with folks): www.paul-bruno.com/2021/07/tips...

Dispatch form home: For the *sixteenth* year in a row, my dad won the Father's Day drawing for Japanese fruit pie at church. I think it's a shame this man does not play the lottery.

SIG members @maggiethornton.bsky.social & Shannon Holder explore how principals advanced equity & detracking efforts during COVID-19 in their chapter, "Detracking in Response to Crisis" in "Leveraging Crisis for Equitable School Improvement" (ed. Patricia Virella)! books.google.com/books?id=giZ...

The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

One relationship I think might exist is that between the issues raised in this article and the number of people who routinely tell me "boys are easier" to parent. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/u...

This is super gross.
