These innovators – Dr. Donald Gair, Sheldon Bycoff and Newt Levee – formed an organization that would help revolutionize how some of the most vulnerable people in our society are cared for.

It all began in 1975 in a cramped office at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center at Longwood Medical. Three forward-thinking mental health visionaries recognized the need for community-based supportive housing as a response to the closure of state psychiatric hospitals all over Massachusetts.

I've never seen a paper with a lay abstract before! Do all of the papers in your journal have them?

Aid and assistance programs should be fully funded and staffed so that they can step in BEFORE a situation becomes an emergency -- which is less expensive, more effective, and overall better for everyone.

I like to say that GOOD HR protects both the organization and the employees; BAD HR gets their organization sued for triple damages. No matter how fast you run, consequences will eventually catch up and bite you.

This means that sometimes, when a tenant needs a higher level of care or services, we have to formally start eviction proceedings in order to make their case an emergency so they can get help! This is a waste of time, energy, and resources -- not to mention deeply stressful for the tenant!

Mainstay has had to use this process in the past, and it has gone very smoothly.
Our biggest complaint about the eviction process is actually that we are forced to take action more often than we'd like, because many aid programs are underfunded and understaffed, and only take emergency cases.
