The thing about JD Vance isn’t his utter lack of principles and concern for other human beings but his apparent bewilderment at the idea that anyone else has those things. You get the sense he wouldn’t murder your family in front of you because he wouldn’t get that that would bother you

still just shocking (not surprising, but shocking) that JD Vance wrote a book about how he hated poor people and the liberal establishment, including academia, loved it and showered him with accolades and power allowing him to make the jump to full fascism and destroy all the ppl who fawned on him.

Someone knows who this man is and where he spends his time. He should be identified. And he should not feel comfortable showing his face in public after this.

Make feminism dangerous again. This is the 23rd week that I've been publishing doses of daily femninist inspiration and incitement. FEMINIST GIANT Daily Dose: 148 www.feministgiant.com/p/daily-dose...

On this day and everyday, I am thankful that these people got up everyday and did it.

14 more years of Gatorade showers..

Handcuffs. Handcuffs. Handcuffs. Handcuffs. None of this ends until someone with handcuffs starts handcuffing the people mocking court orders. Handcuffs. Handcuffs. Handcuffs. And many of you know how I generally feel about handcuffs. To which I say: Handcuffs. Handcuffs. Handcuffs.

It's almost if, you prioritize pedestrians, bikes, and public transit over cars, people's lives improve.

Love this photo of Jackie Robinson, Larry Doby, Don Newcombe, Luke Easter, and Roy Campanella.

Talking about the events of the last three months and how bad they've been and how much worse they could have been and this piece by @catvalente.bsky.social randomly came back to mind. Desantis is no longer close to relevant on the national stage but it's apt. catvalente.substack.com/p/theres-no-...

thank you. yes.

Reminder barriers overcome were often barriers that should never have been there in the first place. Barriers are systems created by people.

In the Pacific Northwest, there is a group that investigates pioneer (1850s+) trees, and they've recovered a number of "lost" apple strains. If you think Red Delicious tastes like an apple, you are missing out on real flavor. Save old varieties!

Remove the Trump administration to the Hague, my God

I keep thinking about trauma. We know trauma shortens lives and reduces quality of what is left. I keep thinking even if the lawyers win and we get the students out of custody, even if the courts win and we get the immigrants back to their families, the trauma will last. Dehumanization haunts us.

This is a phenomenal column by @matrueblood.bsky.social about Jackie Robinson Day and what it means with regards to the pursuit of the American ideal. It's worth pursuing. And as much as we think we're doing much better up here...

Fuck MLB and fuck racism

This stands for tonight as well.

Jackie Robinson was a 100-percent no-shit bad-ass, kinetic even in still photos; your eye always goes right to him. Ditto Chadwick Boseman, who played him in "42" and understood that electricity. We didn't get enough time with either of them. May they watch over us, even if we don't deserve it

if trump can kidnap and send anyone he wishes to slave labor camps abroad, he can kidnap Democrats running for key seats and murder them abroad. at some point you have to defend democracy whatever the polling, because without democracy the polls don't matter. 1

We are made; we are not born.

a lot of US blue-staters have long relied on the idea that they are culturally different from red-staters, which may be true but is also irrelevant when it comes to federal abuses

I don't often retweet memes (which all too often amount to TR_MP SUCKS!), but I think this one is productive.

The largest paying crowd in the history of Wrigley Field was the day Jackie Robinson made his debut. Wrigley is the only park left Jackie played a game in. Mike Ryoko was a kid at that ballpark that day and he wrote about it. Take a minute and read this today. press.uchicago.edu/Misc/Chicago...

Well, look there: another Arthurian April post. This time about everyone’s favorite incarcerated 15th century novelist: Sir Thomas Malory! (Also? Thank goodness for good hair days. I’d like to give a shout out to Swiss water.) youtu.be/2e0OKFM7NsA?...

The "Jackie Robinson Day background" section of MLB's official press release about Jackie Robinson just notes that he was a first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers who debuted in 1947. Nothing about the how, the why.

It’s Jackie Robinson Day. @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social calling out MLB’s blatant hypocrisy is what I needed to start this morning off.

The Dodgers asked Jackie Robinson to be brave so long ago, and cannot bring themselves to be brave today
