With yesterday's London Growth Plan launch, we have the first city-regional economic strategy since the return of industrial policy as a governing tool. @majeedneky.bsky.social looks at what the London plan tells us, for @futuregovforum.bsky.social www.futuregovernanceforum.co.uk/2025/02/24/l...

Today London launches its Local Growth Plan 🏙️ The Plan could be the first test for Labour’s Industrial Strategy, writes West London Alliance’s @majeedneky.bsky.social in his latest blog for FGF. Read it here: www.futuregovernanceforum.co.uk/2025/02/24/l...

What might tomorrow's launch of the London Growth Plan tell us about the Government's Industrial Strategy? Me for @futuregovforum.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/futurego...

In the coming days, London will launch its Local Growth Plan 🌇📈 Writing for FGF, West London Alliance’s @majeedneky.bsky.social explores the Capital’s role in the government's growth mission—and what it will tell us about its upcoming Industrial Strategy ⬇️ open.substack.com/pub/futurego...

NEW: Proud to share my first report as lead author with @centreforlondon.bsky.social and make the case for a more equitable economy in West London and across the capital. 👇 To do this, London needs more devolution to boost economic growth and provide better outcomes for all Londoners.

📈 New research> West London’s Growth Potential: Leveraging the opportunity for a more polycentric city West London's consumer economy is worth £70bn GVA, more than Leeds & Manchester combined. How can policy build on West London's strong growth foundations? centreforlondon.org/publication/...

Meet the destroyer HMS Glowworm. In April 1940 she was forced to fight the German Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, ten times her size, and Hipper's destroyer escorts. Her extraordinary last stand earned her captain the first Victoria Cross of WW2. In part because THE GERMANS nominated him for one /1 🧵

This festive season, it's important to remember that Outer London's Christmas landmarks and attractions are just as good as Inner London's! (Yes, I may be a bit biased, but nonetheless!). Great to see TfL's new Xmas map pay homage to Outer London's great attractions this winter.

I'm once again asking for a show where a librarian, a bookseller, and a carpenter travel around helping people manage their out-of-control book collections. Discuss their sentimental value, their rarity, their histories, then build amazing book nooks and shelves and little libraries to organize them

The government's missions can only succeed if the state invests in its biggest asset: its people. New blog from @majeedneky.bsky.social on why reforming civil service learning and development is essential to kick-starting national renewal ⬇️ www.futuregovernanceforum.co.uk/2024/10/08/l...

"Bringing together and investing time in cohorts of colleagues from different departments, agencies, job roles and even (gasp) grades should be the norm, rather than the preserve of ‘high performers’ or ‘future leaders’." 🔥 @majeedneky.bsky.social: www.futuregovernanceforum.co.uk/2024/10/08/l...

God, having a body is so dumb. "All is lost, I will have to wander barefoot in a futile attempt to reach safety. Humanity was a mistake." :makes and eats a fried egg sandwich: "Ah, well, never mind, it was the blood sugar again."

Joe Root has today surpassed Alistair Cook’s record of test centuries by an English batsman. He is also 7th on the all time test runs list, I do believe that the brilliant Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 ‘may’ be under threat. Root is in the form of his life, and at 33, he has plenty of time.

Nova The Hawk Just outside the Royal Victoria Cable Cars and opposite London City Hall, I was lucky to meet to Nova the Harris Hawk who acts as a deterrent and scares pigeons away from the area. #photography

V good thread on legal & constitutional obstacles to governmental reform. One option might be to create legal structures/duties for specific topics (housing, community cohesion, climate) - a legally constituted ministerial board, statutory duties for ministers to cooperate with one another

Since everyone’s making starter packs, here’s one from me - some of the urban economists and economic geographers on here. This is just people I know, so please LMK below if I’ve missed anyone. #EconSky 📉📈 #geosky go.bsky.app/DpxtxXn

Good thread. I think (as you'd expect) that a place-based accountability system could help to resolve a lot of the challenges. But designing how it would work and moving from here to there is much easier said than done.
