This reminds me of the opening of Kafka's The Trial. Josef K. is arrested, and can't get a clear answer on the charges, but is merely told, by the officers, that it must be bad if their superiors ordered them to make the arrest. No questions allowed, no answers given, no due process.

By stating that "maybe it's just me" Senator Murphy implies that it isn't or shouldn't be just him, and that's clear. But why in general do news outlets or members of Congress still give Trump's appointees the benefit of the doubt? They are assaulting the democracy they were tasked to uphold.

Hey - I appreciate Harvard is standing up against Trump. Time, though, to insist on getting Trump's ICE henchmen to return the students and researchers they kidnapped, including Kseniia Petrova a Russian national who spoke out against the Russian invasion, who will be tortured when deported.

The dems should begin impeachment hearings now. It doesn't matter that the republicans have a majority - since it is clear they have no interest in actual governance. The dems should simply start the hearings.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is clear in this regard: all persons with disabilities have the same sets of rights as all other people, and have the right to support (reasonable accommodation), as needed, to realize those rights.(1)

Meanwhile, there's this critique of a pointless Bezos's Blue Origin photo-op (touted as women's empowerment): www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... Real empowerment, esp for minorities, would be pay equity, better maternal health and reproductive care, protections for survivors of domestic violence.

"the president defied a Supreme Court ruling to return a man mistakenly sent to a gulag... and spoke of sending Americans to foreign concentration camps. This is the beginning of an American policy of state terror, and it has to be identified as such to be stopped" snyder.substack.com/p/state-terror

April 14th, 2025 saw hundreds of #TeslaTakedown protestors come together outside the #PDX #Tesla dealership. Chanting and holding picket signs, the demonstrators happily engaged with passing cars to bring attention to the fascist regime of US President Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk.

Yes - this !! State and city police should arrest ICE agents, and hold them until all those who have been unlawfully deported are returned and compensated for damages.

Fantastic and very detailed analysis of conditions for persons with disabilities in Ukraine now (I'm merely forwarding this). Full report is available here: globaldisabilityfund.org/new/wp-conte... Shorter version (19 pages) is here: globaldisabilityfund.org/new/wp-conte...

The most mind-boggling thing about this isn't the complete distortion of reality in Stephen Miller's sycophancy, rather it is that 26,000 people "hearted" his tweet. What planet do these people live on? What is the basis of and measure for their assertion of his economic mastery?

Shouldn’t they be monitoring proud boys, 3 percenters, Charlottesville preppies, etc for anti-Semitic content and deport them to a random country?

Evidently the obvious is obvious to everyone except the GOP. Also, we have tariffs on Ukraine but not Russia. And that’s our stick or carrot (?) to get Russia to the negotiating table exactly how? Evidently, we do not understand carrots and sticks, just kidnapping and market chaos.

An actual opposition party would be all over TV for the next 10 days reminding people of this tariff bullshit, letting people know that Congress has the power to end this, and getting to work on doing just that. Instead all that exists is the Democratic party so none of this will happen.

In a scathing dissent, Ketanji Brown Jackson slammed the court's ruling made under the “shadows of our emergency docket." “Make no mistake: We are just as wrong now as we have been in the past, with similarly devastating consequences. It just seems we are now less willing to face it,” she wrote.

The DNC was like the beginning of a disaster movie: SO many brilliant women warned everybody what's to come. Now we're in the middle of the f-ing movie... somewhere between Jurassic Park, The Day After Tomorrow, & Schindler's List. & ALL Americans had to do to prevent this... was trust women. 👇🏼

I don't think Orwell, Le Guin, or other dystopian writers could have imagined such an insane "solution." The rest of the year is one day. does this mean they will only "work" eight hours the rest of the year? Only get paid for one day of work? I think mass strikes may be needed.

he's also owed time in jail, I believe, for at least half a dozen crimes.

A little while ago, my parents' cat Bridget went missing. As the weeks dragged on, they became extremely worried. My dad devised a way to distract himself: he began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up in some of art and music's most iconic scenes.

It is simple: he has the support of deeply flawed, unethical and obedient men (who do the kidnapping), deeply flawed, unethical and wealthy men (who fund it), and deeply flawed unethical and cowardly legislators (who do nothing to stop it). You see a pattern? obedience, wealth and cowardice.

1. We contacted the 100 largest American companies and asked a simple question: Do you support the tariffs announced by President Trump on April 2? These are tariffs that have already destroyed trillions of shareholder value NOT ONE COMPANY WOULD ANSWER THE QUESTION

hey WP - thanks for calling this out: it's not just the social security accounts, but also the cuts to HHS that are causing deep harm to persons with disabilities and retirees. But Bezos, you helped this regime come to power, and you forbade criticism of Trump in your paper.(1)

Powerful piece in the NYT (guest essay by Cristina Greer) about how the rule of law and due process have historically been disregarded with respect to communities of color and specifically her ancestors. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/07/o...

"While Trump retains the ceremonial position of Head of State, signing executive orders with flourish and basking in symbolic pageantry, Musk has effectively become Head of Government, wielding unprecedented control over federal agencies."

Absolutely agree! They are soulless and empty suits. Having them on gives them credibility they lost in their subservience to their king. Reminds me of Mohammed Saeed Al-Sahhaf who denied the deeply criminal 2003 US invasion of Iraq while tanks were in the background.

#Handsoff Portland, OR!

Was at Portland (OR) march yesterday. Big turn out, many creative and arch signs. A person using a bullhorn for a call and response: "when I say 'black lives' you say 'matter.'" or "when I say 'immigrants' you say 'are welcome here.'" (1)

Trump is really good at avoiding accountability, at deflecting blame. It may be the only thing he is good at. Even when everyone knows he's lying ("I don't know anything about project 2025"), he magically gets a pass. He couldn't care less. This paper shows how that damages our communities.

Federal judges have the power to ensure compliance with their court orders — if they have the courage to exercise it, @david.noll.org writes. Learn more here.

God I was so scared about doing my girl voice on the show for the Executive Disorder that came out today that I was curled up in a ball at 1:30 in the morning after listening to a bit of it to see how the voice was and then every single comment has been really sweet Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
