When I say thrift grows all over the Brough of Birsay, this is what I mean.

Sometimes you just need to eat a hunk of cheap sharp cheddar.

My sister accused me of “trying to start a fight with someone, anyone” last night. I mean…

Sea Pink, also called Sea Thrift, Arby, and tonn a’ chladaich in Gaelic. It grows all over on the Brough of Birsay. This plant was once used to treat tuberculosis. Such a beautiful flower!

I currently have 64 tabs open on my browser for trying to organize my understanding of current politics in order to convince my family that I’m not crazy one.

A coastal cliff crevice, Brough of Birsay, Orkney, Scotland. I once saw a viral video of a bird of prey equipped with a camera flying over an island. And I got so excited, because I recognized exactly where that bird was. (Here. Hence the story.)

My mug of tea isn’t full enough until I can’t walk without spilling some.

When I was a kid, there were older/cooler in the back of the bus that could blow tiny spit bubbles that actually floated through the air. I. Was. Mesmerized. And I spent months learning how to do it. So yeah, I can blow floating spit bubbles.

My partner on the last stretch of the tidal causeway to the Brough of Birsay. We were anxious to get there, and had waterproof hiking boots on, so we got to splish splash a bit on our way.

Forced my kids to watch The Man Who Knew Too Little last night. Fortunately, they thought it was great. And I couldn’t believe how relevant it actually felt. It’s a shame Bill Murray is apparently a trash human being.

Tidal causeway to the Brough of Birsay, Orkney, Scotland. My partner and I arrived just as the tide was going out and we were the first people over to the island. But you only have a few hours until you get stuck until the next low tide.

Went on a 2mi hike today. So that’s enough fresh air and exercise for a few weeks at least.

Just drank another blackberry Dr Pepper bc I have it in the house. Was it cold? No. Was it good? Also no.

Wouldn’t it be so fun if your bff was your neighbor and you had cute little homes in Skara Brae with a connecting passageway?

My partner once accused me of wanting to be comfortable more than anything else. (Like, in kinda a mean way.) And it’s true. But yesterday, I told him I’m ready to get uncomfortable for the fight against fascism. And that told him how serious I am.

Finally canceled Prime in my search for absolution for my slip up this week. Happy Economic Blackout Day!

Looking into one of the homes at Skara Brae, Orkney, Scotland. Honestly, I’m impressed by this Neolithic family’s place! Right by the sea. Organized. Tidy. Alright, I’ll take it!

I had a dream that someone tried to help me tune my lyre, but instead made it so that my lyre was never in tune. Awful dream.

I ordered something off Amazon today, and now I’m drowning in shame. This timeline sucks.

The Neolithic settlement Skara Brae, the Bay of Skaill, Orkney, Scotland.

Tried to do my call out/call in due diligence by broaching politics with my Trumper mom. It…did not go well. Which is heartbreaking. But we are going to revisit the conversation. My hope hasn’t died yet.

I think someone was practicing witchcraft at the Stones of Stenness shortly before I was there. Pretty cool, ngl.

Just hit a two week streak on Duolingo. That means I’m fluent now, right?

Somebody said the new blackberry Dr. Pepper tastes like medicine, so I bought some. Guess what? It tastes kinda like medicine.

I live right next to a railroad, right in between two crossings. (Like, I can see the train from my couch.) The crossings were recently changed to a quiet zone, but I guess not all the engineers have gotten the memo. Yeah, the horn bothers me more now than it has for the past five years. 🙃

The hearthstone at the Stones of Stenness, Orkney, Scotland. I wish I took a photo in the other direction, since Maeshowe lines up with this break in the stone.
