In today's episode of #SundaySentence, Andrzej Sapkowski's The Lady of the Lake teaches us about the beauty of love: "'Love', Fringilla said slowly, 'is like renal colic. Until you have an attack, you can't even imagine what it's like. And when people tell you about it you don't believe them.'"

This is the last #SundaySentence from Andrzej Sapkowski's The Tower of the Swallow (translated by David French), showing us the beauty in simplicity: "He was complaining of a headache — a fairly normal symptom for someone whose scalp has been torn from their head by an axe."

And now, for this week's #SundaySentence, human nature, by Andrzej Sapkowski's The Tower of the Swallow (translated by David French): "And now he was glowing with happiness, pride and a sense of importance, like every liar when his lies accidentally turn out to be true."

This week's #SundaySentence, from Andrzej Sapkowski's Baptism of Fire (translated by David French) explores the contrast of lyricism and life: "Life, it turns out, isn’t poetry! And do you know why? Because it’s so resistant to criticism!"

This #SundaySentence, from Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves (translated by Danusia Stok) is a great reflection of the typical mind of a younger-middle aged guy: "I know you're almost forty, look almost thirty, think you're just over twenty and act as though you're barely ten."

For today's #SundaySentence, I quote one of my guilty pleasures, one of the ruminations of Nisioisin's Nisemonogatari (translated by James Balzer): "If the words are not reflective of feelings, why assume that the words are false? Must the words be a lie—and the feelings true? Who is to say?"

I seriously catch myself quoting this #SundaySentence a lot, from Andrzej Sapkowski's Blood of Elves (translated by Danusia Stok): "You have made a mistake. You mistook the stars reflected in the surface of the lake at night for the heavens." (excited for the new #Witcher book this year, woot!)

This may be a cheat since I didn’t read this #SundaySentence during the week, but this line by Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle always rings true: “One cannot judge by book being best seller. We all know that. Many best sellers are terrible trash.”

I couldn't help but to reread Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian as the first read of the year, so to you, perceptive reader, I bequeath this #SundaySentence: "It was a face full of life but completely devoid of compassion, brimming with strength and alertness but without stability of character."

A favorite of mine for this #SundaySentence, from Yoru Sumino's I Want to Eat your Pancreas, that really puts into context the whole title: "If I said I was really, really afraid of dying, what would you do?"

Continuing with the #SundaySentence thing, this quote has followed me wherever I go for years, from Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it." #hgttg #dontpanic

For this #SundaySentence, I'll go with a favorite of mine, from Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian: "As you know, human history is full of evil deeds, and maybe we ought to think of them with tears, not fascination."
