“Is not the commandment crystal clear? The hungry are perishing, the naked are freezing to death, the debtors are unable to breathe, and will you put off showing mercy until tomorrow?” On Social Justice, St. Basil the Great (330-379) pgs. 68-69.

“Can Other-Centered, Co-Suffering Love provide a way forward in the face of political panic, Christian supremacy, and creeping fascism?” Susan Carson, Brian Zahnd, Bradley Jersak and I will discuss this at my book launch party next week. www.apprenticeshiplab.com/walking-othe...

I cannot tell you how encouraging and invigorating it is to see posts like this. Sometimes writing (and pastoring and theologizing...) can feel like you're pedaling your bicycle as fast as you can, and you're not making any headway. It can feel like shouting into the void. 1/2

“Can we claim to be people of the resurrection if we love frugally or are meticulous and miserly in service? When we act in fear of judgment or exclusion, are we animated by the resurrection?” #lent #Devotional Get it now. Never observed Lent! This is a great way to start. amzn.to/3CciQ3a

Good morning. “Many poets are not poets for the same reason that religious men and women are not saints; they never succeed in being themselves. They never get around to being the particular poet or the particular monk they are intended to be by God... 1/2

Yup. Throwing grit in the gears if encroaching fascism. Here’s mine.

“By assuming human death, death itself is redeemed . . . Like birth and baptism, it is now one more thing we do, following the example of Jesus. He died with us; we die with him.” #lent #Devotional Available now. And if you’ve never observed Lent, this is a great way to start. amzn.to/3CciQ3a

Hey, I want you to join me for this Zoom gathering. Celebrate my book and sit in on a convo about this question: Can Other-Centered, Co-Suffering Love provide a way forward in the face of political panic, Christian supremacy, and creeping fascism? 1/2

If your Christianity isn’t a threat to people in power, you might not be following Jesus’ example. Walking Otherward: Forty Meditations on Following Jesus’ Path of Other-centered, Co-suffering Love. Available now. Order in time for Lent. amzn.to/3CciQ3a

1/5 Good morning. Something to consider: Christianity in the U.S. is having a crisis because we are not willing to de-center ourselves. Will we follow Jesus' example of de-centering the self? Consider this from Miroslav Volf:

I would love to have you join me, reading Walking Otherward together. In this moment when some Christians seem infatuated with power, it’s a good time to focus on other-centered, co-suffering love. 1/3

Mixed up a salad for lunch. Went to grab some croutons for that savory crunch. There were none. So I thought… savory? Salty? Crunch for texture? And I dropped a handful of potato chips on my salad. Am I genius to lauded for generations? A reprobate transgressing all standards? Who’s to say?

What Jesus reveals that we’d rather not think about. Walking Otherward: Forty Meditations on Following Jesus’ Path of Other-centered, Co-suffering Love. Available now. Order in time for Lent. amzn.to/3CciQ3a

Good morning. Today, a poem. Love Song by Adelia Prada First came cancer of the liver, then came the man leaping from bed to floor and crawling around on all fours, shouting: "Leave me alone, all of you, just leave me be," such was his pain without remission. 1/3

“Can Other-Centered, Co-Suffering Love provide a way forward in the face of political panic, Christian supremacy, and creeping fascism?” THAT is the question I'll be chatting about with Susan Carson, Brian Zahnd, and Bradley Jersak at my book launch party next week. 1/2

Breaking! Major scandal developing. Christian AUTHOR trying to profit by SELLING BOOKS. 🚨Be warned. Wolves are among us! 😂

This actually makes me a little angry. When they showed the photos of this fish swimming up, I thought the great monsters of the deep were rising to punish us for our sins, but it turns out he’s just an ugly little guy who got lost. 🫤

“It's one thing to see the cross as God's tragic sacrifice to benefit me eternally. It's an entirely different thing to see the cross as God standing with all of humanity and inviting us to do the same. #lent #Devotional

Good morning! Another banger from Felicia Murrell: “Justice is love, lived in our actions and acknowledgment of humanity, no matter how alike or different that human is. Justice is right alignment... 1/3

“If you're looking for a devotional to give you a quick daily dose of Scripture, skip this one. If you want to be challenged to think more about what it means to follow Christ, dive in. “ - Pauline Evans, Beta Reader. 1/2

This one realization completely changed my faith life: “The cross is a revelation. It teaches us something new about God. God is not out to prove how powerful God is. God has no desire to force us into submission. God's character is, and always has been, other-centered co-suffering love.”

“How can Other-Centered, Co-Suffering Love provide a way forward in the face of political panic, Christian supremacy, and creeping fascism?” That's the question I'll be chatting about with Susan Carson, @brianzahnd.bsky.social, and @bradleyjersak.bsky.social at my book launch party next week. 1/2

Church, are we falling into the Judas trap? Walking Otherward: Forty Meditations on Following Jesus’ Path of Other-centered, Co-suffering Love. Available now. Order in time for Lent. amzn.to/3CciQ3a

1/2 Got to talk about the other-centered, co-suffering way on one if my favorite podcasts! Thanks to Matt, Ben, and Christy for asking good questions that pushed me to get clear anout what the heck i’m talking about! gravitycommons.com/podcast/marc...
