Chuck Schumer makes it to the New Yorker cartoon section. And not in a good way. Chuck, this is your legacy unless you seriously step up. @schumer.senate.gov

I think I take a lot of the RFK stuff pretty personally because as a Dipshit-American I have a lot of quasi-magical beliefs about how my body works and it really pisses me off to see someone turn this joyful practice to evil

Has anyone considered the possibility that they legit think they are negotiating with China, but are actually the prank victims of a drive-time morning zoo radio program in Shanghai?

The number of Silicon Valley weirdos who believe in ESP, the body healing itself vs medicine, and aliens building pyramids is... most of them. I've been around these dudes for years at TED. Even when I walk them through how pyramids were built (holes to big stones stacked) they go "No. Aliens!"

If you wonder why men *obsessed* with the United States having more children are kidnapping children and sending them to other countries, those children were the incorrect color.

"Interviewees throughout Hatemonger regularly express shame and horror rather than pride at Miller’s steady climb to the heights of political power; one gets the sense that speaking to the media is a form of penance for some of them."

One of my favorite episodes of my favorite podcast.

WAPO: “.. ocean-container bookings from China to the U.S. are down by more than 60 percent .. “.. The consequence will be ‘empty shelves in U.S. stores in a few weeks and covid-like shortages for consumers ..’” @davidjlynch.bsky.social @jeffstein.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Not sure if anyone else has posted this yet, but this note is the sole "evidence" that the Trump admin submitted in court to argue that the mother agreed to take her 2-year-old U.S. citizen daughter with her to Honduras. She wasn't allowed to talk to a lawyer first. Seriously, it's just this note.

If there’s one thing I’ve taken away from reporting on the current DOGE collection of govt data, it is that the people who’ve previously spent their careers carefully handling this information believe there is almost no limit to how it could be abused (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Looks like they checked the math in The Dawn of Everything @davidwengrow.bsky.social

“No matter what you have done before,” Professor William McBride wrote to Annapolis’s Superintendent Adm. Yvette Davids, “your legacy will be that of a careerist who banned Maya Angelou but retained Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf.’” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/24/u...

The key difference here is that Walz believes that Democrats should run on challenging oligarchy but without using that specific term, while Slotkin believes that the Democrats shouldn't run on challenging oligarchy.

Chat GPT is a lot like your Uncle Bill. If you ask him something everyone knows about, he’ll probably give you the correct answer. If you ask him something obscure, he’ll just make stuff up. Also, he’s subtly racist.

One of the tragic ironies of late stage capitalism is the poverty industrial complex. California has handed 25 billion in taxpayer dollars to middlemen to fix homelessness and it has risen by 50%. 25K annual payments to every homeless person would be cheaper. Keeping folks poor is big business.

NYT: One estimate finds that DOGE’s “firings, re-hirings, lost productivity and paid leave of thousands of workers” will actually COST taxpayers “upward of $135 billion this fiscal year.” @nytimes.com 🤡 www.nytimes.com/2025/04/24/u...

The fact that we are also making lists of Jewish professors proves the harmlessness of our registry of autistic children. by Linda McMahon and RFK Jr.

At long last someone has identified RFK Jr.'s support base: the 9% of people who have a favorable opinion of the Black Plague

I input soil tests results, variety of tree, and type of fertilizer used into AI to figure out the proper fertilizer dosage in orchards. Over use of fertilizers is a major environmental problem AI is currently helping to solve. I'd never use it to write a poem, but it's very useful in some cases.

Just heard someone say “he sounds like he spends a lot of time on Facebook” and hooo boy everyone’s immediate understanding of what that means should be a brand crisis for Meta

Trump has slashed the NIH and NSF budget, hired an anti-vaxxer as head of Health and Human Services, and filled the government's web page with crazed conspiracy theories. Here's why we just published a volume on the left's war on science. by Lawrence Krauss and Steve Pinker.

NEWS: Israel’s Prison Service is hanging large photos of Gaza’s destruction inside cells holding alleged Hamas detainees. The images, displayed in underground wings and cells, show flattened neighborhoods and civilian ruins from the war.

If six months ago you'd told me that in autumn 2025 I'd have to go to Canada to get my annual COVID vaccine but I wouldn't do it because coming back through immigrations was too risky for someone who had criticized the government, I would have looked at you like you were having a stroke.

One of the most shocking things I have read for a while: t.co/lg46ijHLDF

Trump is making average intelligence in the US drop faster than micro plastics.

Oh my god this is insane - I’m struggling to find a comparison but it’s something like “the Navy cancelled all submarines”

The reason billionaires like McMahon are obsessed with student debt is that creating financial precarity makes people more stressed about losing their job. If you’re worried about your job you’re less likely to quit and find work elsewhere. You’re less likely to ask for a raise. It’s pure class war.

my plan to get people to start having more kids? make climate change worse. abolish the department of education. also milk is poison

Gélineau advanced the term "narcolepsy" in 1880 while de la Tourette described his eponymous syndrome in 1885. "Autism" was coined by Bleuler in 1911, with full diagnoses soon after. But what do I know? I'm not the Cabinet secretary in charge of the goddamn Department of Health and Human Services.

Ugh I’m getting so many of these

"U.S. banks’ lending to hedge funds is now greater than their entire equity capital, the financial buffer that banks hold to protect against unforeseen losses. High levels of borrowing, or leverage, usually amplify market moves in any direction."

They won’t fire Hegseth unless and until they can find someone equally suited to the project of destroying American institutions and endangering American lives.

Astronomers have found thousands of planets outside the solar system. All of them are, to my knowledge, garbage. Happy Earth Day to the only good one 🌍

“We really don’t know if we’re ever going to see her again, because if they deport her to Russia, we may never see her again.”

Kind, decent, and compassionate, Pope Francis was badly out of step with contemporary western culture.

Both Saints and Cardinals looking to trade up

he killed more people in three months than IDF, Hamas, and the Russian Army combined did in eighteen

Indeed I’m fearful. We aren’t testing much any more. We’re firing everyone in govt who can help and stripping funding from academic & industry scientists who can fill the gaps. H5N1 is a real threat & US policy puts us all at risk. Me & colleagues Kay Russo, Kamran Khan, & Keith Poulsen discuss👇🏻
