Living in a world where Trump/maga is possible, where popes are still a thing, is like finding yourself in the middle-ages and being the only person not suffering the hallucinogenic and violently paranoid effects of ergot poisoning. Alice in Dementedland. I have to pinch myself sometimes.

Pick your oppressive regime throughout time and you will find efforts to control the arts. I was waiting for this. apple.news/ACuaeLvRQQbC...

‘Who tells the story determines the story that gets told.’ In 2017 Common People, an anthology of working class memoir was our attempt to offer alternative narratives. So much yet to be done. See the work of @drdaveobrien.bsky.social

A teenager sits on a low wall in High Beach, Essex. She wears black and pink clothes and her hair is also dyed black and pink. Between her knees, her large black dog sits up on its haunches. The girl cups her hands around the dog's head. They seem like one creature, staring out towards the woods.

I will be exploring the impact of this draconian legislation in my next book and exhibition. It’s only a matter of time before I am arrested for peacefully documenting a peaceful protest.

W Eugene Smith with cameras, at the window of the Jazz Loft in New York. Between 1957 and 1965 he took tens of thousands of photos and recorded thousands of hours of audio here at the Flower District building, where he lived and documented his Jazz Loft project.

The framed version of the exhibition will go into storage in March until it is shown at Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow in 2026, then in May that year it will be broken up and the frames reused for my Rebellion! exhibition. Opportunities to display the framed version are now very limited.

Someone I spoke with at the Martin Parr preview said they thought I should do an exhibition of my Nighthawks photos. Most were taken ten years ago and I don’t have enough for a book/exhibition so it would mean making new work. It’s an interesting idea and hadn’t really occurred to me.

Remembering back before we opened talking about making the Assembly Room a place for people to actually assemble and engage with each other and the wider world and exhibitions like this one show it was worth fighting for that.

It looks like our Snowdrop Sunday tomorrow will be weather-blessed, with the rain holding off till after the event is finished. So come and join us to transform our little corner of Finsbury Park into a haven of snowdrops that come back year after year. 💚 A symbol of hope in the darkness...

I was at the Outsiders exhibition at @stalbansmuseums.bsky.social for quite a while yesterday, quietly observing the interactions with the work. The level of engagement was surprisingly high, with people reading all of the labels and stories and it stimulating a lot of conversations among visitors.

Magazine spread from some years ago, featuring some of the photos I posted recently. That Shinyong and I made together. Tokyo is the best studio.

Yesterday students from central St Martins took over the ground floor of the museum and installed their artwork for a crit* It was really nice to have the building being used in that way ❤️ *critical review of their work, key part of artistic training.

The three most important things in photography are subject, subject and subject…

Blue Oyster Cult hit mainstream with ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper’ and, to a lesser extent, ‘Godzilla,’ but the 1975 double album ‘On Your Feet Or On Your Knees’ captures their darker, more edgy side. Great guitar album.

Hey, I've got a new and spiffy-looking website, if you're inclined to check it out. benjamindreyer.com
