Nice to have a Scarlet Darter 📸 published in the latest 'British Wildlife Magazine'. #dragonfly #odonata

Many thanks to @brendanryan1.bsky.social for finding this Hawfinch in Westbere Churchyard this morning. A long awaited Stour Valley ✅️. @kentishplover.bsky.social #kentbirding

Diffuse Northern Lights from around midnight at Reculver, North Kent, UK. @metjam.co.uk #aurora

Northern Lights from Reculver, Kent, on the 24th Feb 2025. Nice to see them again, just a shame about the bright cruise ship passing through. #aurora #Northernlights @metjam.co.uk

Northern Lights from Reculver tonight. Still a green glow on the horizon 20:20.

A busy weekend on the Nethergong/Chislet Marshes patch with a few good birds seen. More @ ngbirding.blogspot.com/?m=0. @kentishplover.bsky.social #kentbirding #ukbirding

A couple of shots of the Hawfinch at Chislet Church this afternoon. Really pleased to have this on the patch currently... and a few shots too. @kentishplover.bsky.social #kentbirding #ukbirding

Superb few hours in the Chislet Marshes area. Hawfinch showed well around the church for c25 mins. Also seen were 1 Firecrest, 1 male Hen Harrier, 1 Merlin, 2 Marsh Harrier and 2 Raven. @kentishplover.bsky.social #kentbirding #ukbirding

Highlight this morning on my morning walk in the Nethergong area was the wintering Hawfinch, which showed briefly in trees around Chislet Church. #kentbirding #ukbirding @kentishplover.bsky.social

Just putting this back out there. I had this single duck last year over Nethergong which I suspected was a ?. I've included 2 silhouette photos of a Mallard to try to compare structure, head and bill shape. Any thoughts? @kentishplover.bsky.social

It seems that Brent Geese are on the move. I've recorded a couple of flocks the past few night over Nethergong and Grove Ferry, so if you do #nocmig and you want them for your patch, now's a good time to get listening. @kentishplover.bsky.social

A newly emerged female Brilliant Emerald Dragonfly from a few years ago at Thursley Common. #dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

First dipping session of the year at Nethergong this pm, in a pool where Southern Migrant Hawkers laid last year. No luck with them, although the eggs may not have hatched yet, but 1 Hairy Dragonfly nymph. #dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

Highlights this morning in the Nethergong/Chislet Marshes area were some Brent Geese that flew south over Nethergong @ 05:15 in the dark, the first time I have heard them 'live' from here. Also 4 Raven, 1 Merlin and a Firecrest. ebird.org/checklist/S213…. #kentbirding

Common Blue Damselfly at sunrise from a few years ago. If you get the right weather, the colours can be amazing. Just reward for the early start. #Dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

Emerging Banded Demoiselle. One of the toughest species to capture emerging in my opinion, they're all legs! #dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

Male Red veined Darter. What a stunner but, seemingly, can be quite hard to see from year to year. #dragonfly ##odonata ##UKwildlife

Emperor Dragonfly emerging at night. View the whole emergence @ marcheath.blogspot.com/2020/06/emer.... #dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

A seawatch off Herne Bay Downs to keep out of the rain from 07:00 produced 272 Red throated Diver mainly East and 1 Great Northern Diver. @kentishplover.bsky.social ##kentbirding ##ukbirding

Despite the gloomy conditions again, 3 year ticks this morning (Shelduck, Great Black Backed Gull and Firecrest), which takes me to 80 species. Also, Hen Harrier, 2 Raven and 1504 Cormorant over. @kentishplover.bsky.social #ukbirding #kentbirding

In 2018 I spent 2 weeks searching in the evenings for Norfolk Hawkers emerging at a local site. Eventually I found my target and was able to capture the full emergence. #Dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

Emperor Dragonfly nymphs at different stages of development (7mm to 45mm). #Dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

A Dainty Damselfy exuviae study I did a while ago. A really good way to get to know the id features needed. You never know when you're going to need it. #Dragonfly #odonata ##UKwildlife #exuviae

Moulted Brown Hawker nymph skin. They shed their skin a number of times until fully grown. What a set of jaws! #Dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

Looking back through some old photos and found this male Bearded Tit from Nethergong. A rare bird here, the last record being over 5 years ago. #kentbirding #ukbirding @kentishplover.bsky.social

The quite 'scarce' blue morph female Southern Migrant Hawker at Nethergong last year. Quite a spectacular individual. @smallshire.bsky.social #dragonfly #odonata #UKwildlife

The Nethergong patch list moves on to 75 species with 4 additions over the weekend. NEW photos @ ngbirding.blogspot.com. @kentishplover.bsky.social #kentbirding #ukbirding

Diffuse Northern Lights from Reculver 20:50.

The different stages of a Willow Emerald Damselfly emerging at night in July a few years ago. Observing and 📸 these events are always magical. #Dragonfly #UKwildlife #odonata

A few unpublished photos of the stunning Scarlet Darter from Dorset last year. Many photos taken and just going through some of them now. Hopefully they appear again this year. #UKwildlife #dragonfly ##odonata

Golden ringed Dragonfly exuviae. What a set of jaws. One day, I will find my own in Kent. Also, a small Emperor Dragonfly nymph. #Dragonfly #UKwildlife #nature
