The Trump Effect in Canada: Since Trump’s inauguration, Liberals doubled their votes in polls (from 22% to 44%) and are now set to win an outright majority of seats.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

I got a question for you: Who are the academics who most engage with society at large - be it policymakers, courts, nonprofits and the media? Please share their names with me here or at [email protected] 🙏

#EU Trade Commissioner @marossefcovic.bsky.social on the outcome of his meeting with #US Commerce Secretary Lutnick. Reiterates the zero for zero tariff on industrial goods offer, achieving progress will require a *significant joint effort on both sides*

Congratulations to Albania for taking another step towards EU membership Today, we opened the Internal Market cluster. While tariffs return elsewhere, we’ll be breaking down barriers to trade and business. Happy to see us building a more united & secure Europe together.

Hello from Budapest, where the Orbán government’s campaign against Ukrainian EU accession is ongoing. The gov-funded billboards include images of Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Ursula von der Leyen and Manfred Weber.

Crucial conversations at today’s #FAC. On Middle East & Gaza, ceasefire must be renewed, all hostages released & life-saving aid must start flowing. On EU-Africa ties, we're stepping up humanitarian aid for Sudan & neighbouring countries & East DRC; preparing EU-AU Ministerial.

The Council adopted a decision to sign a Digital Trade Agreement with #Singapore . The new agreement will: 📌 enhance consumer protection online 📌 provide legal certainty for businesses 📌 ensure trusted data flows 📌 address unjustified barriers to digital trade ➡️ europa.eu/!GJqJKv

Timely event with top notch speakers tomorrow 👇

Today, my feed has been made up of pictures of the dead bodies strewn across the street after a Russian rocket strike on Sumy- and posts from the Russian state media, which has been sharing clips of Dmitry Peskov ice dancing

As of 6 pm today, 34 people were killed and 117 injured by the Russian strike on Sumy. Two of the killed and 15 of the injured are children. The Russian strike killed everyone in the Martynenko family – mom, dad and their son Maksym, a six-grader. Deepest condolences.

Heartbreaking scenes from Sumy this morning as residents gathered for Palm Sunday only to be met by Russian missiles. Horrific example of Russia intensifying attacks while Ukraine has accepted an unconditional ceasefire. My thoughts are with the Ukrainian people today.

Take this beautiful shot taken earlier this week in the Tuileries as your regular reminder to use the weekend (or any off-time) to disconnect or do the kind of things that are good for you, whatever that is. Even more important when you work on intense topics.

Doux passage vers le weekend

It may seem counterintuitive to issue more debt during a crisis. But in a world where US economic policy is unpredictable, safe asset diversification suddenly has value. And the EU’s best response to US tariffs is to issue more debt. My OpED at @bruegel.bsky.social www.bruegel.org/first-glance...
