Elon Musk is a long-term threat. He’s 53 years old! How, as a society, are we going to tackle the problem of oligarchy and monopoly? Physically, they’re here indefinitely. Trump is merely the fuse for the bomb that billionaires have meticulously crafted for Americans & the global order

Been away for a while… ironic that the least I’ve spoken is during the implosion of the US govt. I’d comment on everything he’s done since inauguration, but that’d be way too long of a thread. I’ll be back to regular posting for the foreseeable future, even if it’s just me screaming into the void

Trump is the master at flip-flopping views and gaslighting the public. I can only imagine how much clout amongst Gen Z/millennials he’s going to accrue from “saving” TikTok. Cut & dry, he’s a narcissist.; create a problem and pretend to be the hero. trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential...

Oh, and another thing I vehemently dislike: People willing to make excuses for excessive salaries for CEOs, existence of billionaires, etc. I don’t care if they make your stock portfolio green, they are exploiting surplus value and cashing in on the hard work and struggle of people like you and me.

I always laugh when somebody tells me they don’t care about politics or say that politics don’t affect them, seeing as they’re living in a country with rights and privileges dictated by elected officials. Life and society is inherently political, your way of life is molded by centuries of policy.

Hope everyone out in California is staying safe. As for the rest of us, we have to continue to reject the politicization of natural disasters. Maybe support the Red Cross while you’re at it, too.

As much as I try to think about things scientifically and practically, one of my favorite pseudoscientific beliefs is that Earth is actually a living, conscious being. It’s interesting how Earth snaps back at humans through disease, natural disasters, famine, etc. the more we pollute and destroy

MAGA logic: “Wanting to defend Ukraine and stand up to Putin and China makes you a wArMoNgErrrrr….. also DrOnEs oVeR nEw JeRsEy!!” Also “Let’s attack Greenland and Panama to tRiGgEr ThE LiBs!!!”

I’m shocked at how much I was caught off guard by Trump’s colonialism and hawkishness. I almost feel naive for not having expected it. As I’ve said before, his neo-fascist policy mirrors early Nazi Germany, so in retrospect, it’s not shocking that imperialism and colonialism were on the menu, too.

I’ve been considering the tradeoffs of tech giants, e.g Google & Microsoft. They provide a plethora of convenient services and fund important research, but their existence is intrinsically unethical. What are your thoughts? Are they a necessary evil, or would you do away with them given the chance?

Minimum wage should have been following inflation and productivity for the past several decades. Instead, the average wage and benefits for a CEO have significantly increased, corporations have monopolized, and working class people have suffered. This is an inherently broken system that needs fixing

Mark my words, privacy invasions of this nature will become a reality within, say, the next 15 years. 6G cellular networks and advancements in AI will propel these types of projects forward. www.businessinsider.com/larry-elliso...

Do I seriously have conservatives trying to convince me that the Las Vegas car bomb was “just fireworks” and “not an IED” and suggesting otherwise is “invoking fear” and “adjusting facts”? Really? So, because the guy was a conservative veteran, I’m not allowed to say he bombed himself? What?

People are often oblivious to the US gov’s own efforts to distort fact and history to manipulate the public. Publishers and media are lobbied to present partial or modified accounts. Some prominent figures attack credible institutes. While mostly affecting red states, this is also a national issue.

Sometimes I don’t even have the energy to form an intellectual take— all that I can ask myself is: “what the hell is wrong with the world?” The attack in NOLA was pure evil. My heart goes out to the families affected. I hope that one day, people will once again feel safe existing in public.

Not the best look when you block someone for having an honest disagreement over an ultimately pointless subject

I wish there were safeguards in place for representatives that switch party affiliation immediately after an election. This applies for any politician from any party. It’s just wrong, I can’t imagine these people would have had the same election outcome if they were transparent from the beginning.

The Morning Monty says you can sit someplace else, because this spot is taken.

The GOP (MAGA on the more extreme side) is grossly anti-intellectual. I mean, we’ve seen attacks on educational and scientific institutions for years, but now we’re seeing subtle shifts towards the Internet space, where even established websites such as Wikipedia aren’t spared from Musk’s scrutiny.

Good morning from @altyellonatpark.org

I'm going to post this video every day so we never forget

Some of my investments are doing very well after Trump was elected, which almost feels like dirty money in a way. Well, regardless, I expect a lot of these stocks to crash— the value increase is artificially boosted by Trump and not organically earned by genuinely impressive performance and models.

Piggy-backing off of this— I believe that going forward, the best chance for Democrats in a presidential election will be to run a progressive populist, using AOC or Bernie as simple examples (obviously, he’s too old now). Contrary to popular belief, out-of-touch moderates have lost a lot of appeal.
