Pam Bondi: “This is a criminal judge sitting on a criminal bench. Anyone who is going to let anyone—any criminal defendant—out a back door is absurd.” When Trump was a criminal defendant, judges often allowed him to enter and exit court out a back door.

Stop what you’re doing & listen to this!

Given the literal definition of deportation is removing a foreigner or noncitizen from the country, we - journalists, media orgs - should probably all stop referring to the ‘deportation’ of a 2 year old US citizen. It’s NOT a deportation. I’m not sure what it is. A kidnapping?

Happy 92nd birthday to the one and only Carol Burnett!

This is a really important response to the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan by Kash Patel's lawless FBI. Good on Representative Clancy.

I want a president who is tougher on Putin than he is on Harvard.

Ever wonder what an “emergency application” is or how #SCOTUS handles one internally? Today’s bonus issue of “One First” outlines what we know, what we think, and what’s totally opaque about how the Court decides these increasingly common and important requests: www.stevevladeck.com/p/bonus-145-...

Trump Offers a Private Dinner to Top 220 Investors of His Memecoin The offer, which caused President Trump’s memecoin to surge in price, was his family’s latest effort to profit from cryptocurrencies. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/23/t...

Resistence is NOT futile

Trump has “liberated” regular Americans from 25% of their financial wortth in less than 100 days.

Today’s “One First” takes a (very) deep dive into Justice Alito’s Saturday night dissent in the A.A.R.P. Alien Enemy Act case—and how it attempts to invent a series of procedural objections to the majority’s intervention that … simply don’t exist: www.stevevladeck.com/p/145-justic...

Highly recommend reading @stevevladeck.bsky.social on everything Alito got wrong in his delayed dissent from Saturday night. (There was a lot.) I'll just add that I think the Alito of 15 years ago wouldn't have made some of these sloppy errors. He's slipping! www.stevevladeck.com/p/145-justic...

Re-upping this morning’s “One First” post in light of President Trump’s praise of Justice Alito’s Saturday night dissent in the Alien Enemy Act case:

Chances that there were only two seem pretty low.

BREAKING — Couldn't be prouder of Harvard! "Veritas and Virtue", indeed! Harvard's lawsuit, filed here in Boston, accuses White House of "undertaking an arbitrary and unconstitutional campaign to 'punish Harvard for protecting its constitutional rights.'” www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

This Hegseth thing is funny and all — but the unprecedented incompetence, frivolity, and treachery of the entire cabinet puts us all at very real risk.

How many times does Pete Hegseth need to leak classified intelligence before Donald Trump and Republicans understand that he isn’t only a f*cking liar, he is a threat to our national security?

Happy to amplify. We're all in this together, and it's outrageous what's happening to #LambertvilleNJ and #NewHopePA. I used to call it "Brigadoon" country, but toxicity distorts that to "Being-à-doom". May it be cleaned up + resurrected, in keeping with all that's just and good. 🙏🏽🌱💜

Mark Paoletta is the guy at the center of the Harlan Crow painting with Clarence Thomas, sitting on the pedestal of the weird Native American statue.

250 years ago today America began its march toward independence at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The battles marked “No Kings Day, Part I.” Today millions of Americans will take part in “No Kings Day, Part II.”

Full story by @jeffpillets22f.bsky.social affecting the #LambertvilleNJ house where where my best friend from college has lived for decades, near old town dump site riddled with PFAS contamination. Local activists fighting the city include @jefftittel.bsky.social @bethobrien.bsky.social.

4/ “What’s happening right here on this hill shows what our priorities really are,” Tittel said...“Landfills, recycling centers, ugly power lines, gas pipelines that no one else wanted—all of it has either been foistd on this one spot or plannd for this site without consent of people who live here.”

3/ "While poor neighborhoods from Newark to Camden have been the focus of so-called 'environmental justice' advocates in Trenton, little headway has actually been made in reforming the system, Tittel said." #LambertvilleNJ #PFAScontamination #PublicSafety #Non-Transparency

2/ "Jeff Tittel, a 28-year Lambertville residnt who is formr head of NJ Sierra Club, said Connaught Hill is a sad example of public areas across state that've...been sacrificed to industrial polluters+targeted for high-impact public ventures that more visible, affluent neighborhoods wld nevr allow."

As we rediscover our revolutionary roots + rise to reform, in keeping w/the American Covenant, let's focus on #LambertvilleNJ + toxic poison affecting homeowners, a large private homebuilder holding closed-door negotiations w/Mayor + PFAS contamination results. jerseyvindicator.org/2025/04/17/a...

The Supreme Court will hear oral argument in Donald Trump‘s birthright citizenship case in a couple of weeks. They have declined to lift the stay that keeps him from enforcing his executive order at least until the day of the hearing www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/u...

I see a lot of people falling into the "this is pointless" trap, and I can only say it so many ways — though I suspect I will have to write something specifically about it on this front — but the bottom line is that we must expect compliance. Anything less is just making noncompliance easier.

it is one of the most common tools of contemporary authoritarian regimes: weaponize tax authorities against those in dissent, or journalists, or institutions, like harvard here, that refuse to capitulate to unlawful demands.

A couple thoughts on this: 1. It violates the law. In 1998, Congress explicitly provided that the President could not, directly or indirectly, request that the IRS start or end an audit or other investigation of a taxpayer. www.taxnotes.com/research/fed... 1/

If there’s one thing from my visit to a rural hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota everyone should know, it’s this: We should be talking about how we can improve Medicaid… not kicking people off of it.

I put a hold on Ed Martin’s nomination. He’s denied elections. Fired quality public servants. Attempted to chill free speech. Turns out he’s also carrying water for the Kremlin. So wholly unfit to be a U.S. Attorney.
