A friend raised this on FB, and it's a fascinating question: is there a more unlikely film to have three actors with Academy Awards than HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK?

A M3.9 in North Hollywood. Too small to definitively assign to any fault, but the closest is the Hollywood fault. Yawn. Nothing much to say about an earthquake in earthquake country. I am in Boston and am heading back to sleep.

Ok well at least now I know that there’s Earthquake Bluesky

Now that I am no longer working for the LA Times I can donate to “political” causes again (journalists aren’t supposed to do this to avoid publicly demonstrating ideological views.) So I just set up recurring monthly donations to a group working on gun safety and a one working on abortion rights. 😎

Paul, the @latimes.com letters editor, is a hidden treasure. He made sure readers were heard, and shared parts of himself too, in his op-ed essays. A magician, he made a difficult job look easy, and was the best of colleagues too. The Times and Times’ readers will be diminished because he left.

I have taken a buyout from the LATimes. Today is my last day. To be able to have worked for a company for 20 years and think of that time as (mostly) pretty darn great and filled with pride as well as being able to leave on my own terms without regrets is a rarity I don’t take lightly. Onward!

Carla is a class act and the LAT is worse off because we're losing her, along with dozens of others who accepted a buy out this week. I'm still here, and will continue reporting without fear or favor, no matter circumstances outside or inside the newsroom. www.cjr.org/business_of_...

I’ve been a huge fan of the Normal Gossip podcast from the jump so it’s no shock that I’m loving “You Didn’t Hear This From Me” by @mckinneykelsey.bsky.social, founder and original host. It’s such a fun, fascinating book on gossip and its role in our culture. And of course the audiobook is 💯.

Here's a list of DOGE staff, assembled and annotated by my colleagues at BI. Whatever you do, please don't share it. www.businessinsider.com/doge-staff-l...

A lot has happened at the L.A. Times, some of it taking the focus away from our excellent journalism. If you want to know what's really going on, I'd suggest you keep an eye on the Guild Eagle. First issue written by me: latguild.com/news/2025/2/...

been getting questions from so many folks about what’s going on at the LA Times. big thanks to @jqwritesstuff.bsky.social for laying it all out. Here’s link to subscribe for more updates from the LA Times Guild: actionnetwork.org/forms/subscr...

Paul does a magnificent job curating, editing and publishing the letters to the editor that come to the LA Times. On the few occasions I’ve filled in for him I am always in awe at his skills. I’m glad to hear him read these letters we received after the fires aloud.

I started working at the LA Times 20 years ago today. My hair is grayer after two decades working in media. LAT is a mighty force and regardless of upheaval in the past, present or future, I am proud of what I’ve done at and with the Times.

This is a great read about why local news is important and should be saved. And thanks, @dianamoskovitz.bsky.social, from an @latimes.com editor for the kudos for what my colleagues did over the past 10 days. I’m in awe of them and so many others on the ground.

This is a heart-pounding, informative read of what happened just miles from me last week. I encourage everyone to read it and share it, especially with all the people who know nothing about wind, fire or L.A. geography yet are convinced they know exactly how these fires could have been prevented.

The Pasadena Humane Society has taken in >500 pets displaced by Eaton fire. Evacuees were forced to make devastating choices about pets. Some, terrified, hid or refused to leave. In other cases, owners were away from home & could not return www.latimes.com/california/s... by me for @latimes.com

A small thing in light of this shitty news, but it would be lovely if today were the day this GoFundMe for TWIN PEAKS actor Carel Struycken and his wife, who lost their home in the Eaton Fire, reached its target www.gofundme.com/f/support-ca...

Here’s tomorrow’s front page of the @latimes.com. There have been at least 24 deaths and more than 12,000 structures damaged or destroyed in the L.A. area fires. All our coverage is here: www.latimes.com/california/l...

I’ve been watching a lot of local Los Angeles News. I’ve been hell of critical of our media these days. But these local reporters are doing a superb job. Of course there are exceptions, but generally the coverage has been excellent and appreciated

I might punch the next person who says these fires were "completely preventable." That is all.

An unparalleled and stunning visual record of this historic and tragic moment in L.A. is being created right now by my colleagues @latimesphotos.bsky.social #journalismmatters www.latimes.com/california/s...

Angelenos, Mutual Aid LA made this list of resources during the crisis. It's very helpful. Please share.
