Deborah is not the only female prophet in the Bible who has had the importance and scope of her ministry diminished by people who have a problem with women leaders. Huldah has been given the same treatment. (From my archives.) margmowczko.com/huldah-proph...

From the Orthdox Barbie archives: “Women were there. Wherever you imagine the men were. They were out and about doing frontline ministry, women like Priscilla. They were there talking philosophy with the intellectual elites, women like the Athenian Damaris in Acts. /1

The quiet part out loud. But what Watters isn’t saying—and what is most critical to understand—is that the right’s entire model is top-down. It’s funded by and totally in service of capital. The conservative movement is a corporate counterrevolution, funded by the biggest money in America.

The Tree of Life version of the Bible (TLV) came up a couple of times this week in comments on social media. So I took a look. I found a few things that concern me and have listed them in a new postscript here: margmowczko.com/best-bible-t...

In Jesus’s kingdom, the humble are exalted, the lowly are the greatest, and the last are first. This article looks at a few passages of Jesus’s teaching recorded in Matthew’s Gospel which show that Jesus promoted the social values of humility and equality. 1. Huge news! The ESV translation committee have changed their mind about Gen. 3:16. It was previously, "... Your desire shall be CONTRARY TO your husband, BUT he shall rule over you." The new ESV text has, "... Your desire shall be FOR your husband, AND he shall rule over you." continued ...

So after promising to focus on safety, they’ve gotten right down to work… on gender terminology?

Paul used "head" 3 times in his letter to the Ephesians when speaking about Christ & the church and husbands & wives, each time in a head-body metaphor signifying unity, but also fullness or maturity for the body. margmowczko.com/ephesians-52...

1 Corinthians 15:1-11 is a lectionary reading this Sunday (Feb. 9th). This passage speaks about different groups of Christians, including different apostles, who saw the risen Jesus. I've written about these apostles here: margmowczko.com/apostles-in-... I count 21 apostles in the NT. See postscript

Artemis, the patron goddess of Ephesus, is often brought up in discussions on 1 Timothy 2:12 ("I do not allow a woman to teach ..."). I have doubts she is behind 1 Timothy 2, but she is behind Acts 19. I've enjoyed learning about her. Here's my research on this goddess. margmowczko.com/tag/artemis/

How do you talk about a mixed gendered group in Koine Greek? You use the masculine plural. Here's Marg putting that info into action.

In this post, I discuss why the Greek noun adelphoi (translated as "brethren" in the KJV) typically means "siblings" or "brothers and sisters" in Paul's letters and in some other parts of the NT. To translate adelphoi as "brethren" or "brothers" can be misleading. margmowczko.com/adelphoi-bro...

1 Timothy 3:2 and the "husband of one wife" qualification has come up several times this week. In this article, I include quotations that show how this qualification was understood by the first Christians who commented on it. margmowczko.com/pauls-theolo...

I spoke with Choa Magazine, an online magazine for the Korean female diaspora, about the socioeconomic factors driving South Korea's declining birth rate, the realities of gender inequality, importance of cultural nuance and authenticity in reporting, and more. www.choamagazine.com/sex-michelle...

Ever wonder what snow in the swamp would look like? This is 5 miles into the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya basin... it's unreal... having lived down there for the first 28 years of my life, we never saw anything like this. Smashed records. Curtesy of Garrett Roberts.
