Women and girls continue to bear disproportionate impacts of heatwaves in South Sudan that have become a constant threat

Thank you @ccowinfo.bsky.social

Academic institutions across Europe urge governments and international institutions in the U.S., Europe and beyond to remain vigilant and strengthen ongoing efforts to safeguard academic freedom and the autonomy of scientific institutions. ✊ @scienceacademyswe.bsky.social @sverigesungaakademi.se

This is such good news and shows the real advantages of the modern renewable economy as it replaces the old fossil fuel one. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Twenty years ago I saw a tree full of Monarch butterflies in California. Tragic to know how populations have fallen. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

This is slightly more positive for this century but very concerning for the long term. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Distressing news from the US today: 880 NOAA staff fired. From a polar bear perspective, NOAA data is used extensively in analyses. Impacts of losing this expertise is hard to fathom. Short-sighted & a mistake. www.bbc.com/news/article... @zacklabe.com has provided incredibly valuable insights.

This morning @margothodson.bsky.social and I are teaching at Regents Theological College in Malvern. I will look at the Environment, Margot at Mission and Simo Frestadius will consider the environment from a Pentecostal Theology perspective. My 4th time and always a great experience.

A whale-watching crew in California captured video of a "superpod" of about 2,000 dolphins swimming off the coast. So many the water looked "like it was boiling," a boat captain with the crew said. nyti.ms/4ki1Fy7

This morning @margothodson.bsky.social and I are teaching a group of 20 people from Oxford Diocese. I started with an update on the environmental crisis, and then Margot looked at Biblical Theology. This afternoon the diocese environmental staff will explain what we can do about the problems.

Just heard this important advice on the @bbcradio3bot.bsky.social news sandwiched between BP cutting back on renewables and plans to expand Gatwick Airport. Madness! BBC News - Half of homes need heat pump by 2040, government told www.bbc.com/news/article...

Green economies thrive! Let's hope this is a positive incentive for other countries. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

So sad to hear about such catastrophic floods. BBC News - At least nine dead in US floods and heavy rain www.bbc.com/news/article...

Peatlands are so often overlooked and yet are really important for storing carbon - or releasing it! www.theguardian.com/environment/...

I didn't have January as the warmest ever on my 2025 bingo card. Honestly, it's a bit shocking with La Nina present in the Pacific. I wouldn't expect monthly records to keep happening this year but still. Wow.

This is why we should be acting faster not slower on reducing all emissions possible.

Rediscovered, a young English novelist’s warning of the Nazi threat

Building homes in flood risk zones is crazy. Climate change is exacerbating the risk and it will cause stress and misery to those living in them and massive cost to government and taxpayers long-term. @ollyglover.bsky.social

I was in London on Thursday and it is noticeable how much cleaner the air is since ULEZ was introduced.

Early start with the sunrise yesterday for a day of meetings at Church House Westminster. First off the Theological Colleges Environmental Network (TCEN), then a working group developing an environmental theology publication for the @churchofengland.org. Loads of creative ideas and plans.

Schmidt nails it in this article. This is why super urgent action is needed by all nations. BBC News - Unexpectedly warm January puzzles climate scientists www.bbc.com/news/article...

This is a brilliant course and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to better connect their faith with their love of nature and concern for the environment

James Hansen was one of the very early scientists warning about global heating. It is tragic that we have reached this point. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

This January should be cooler because of La Nina. Instead it's the warmest on record. Why is this not top news?

I'm on the way to London to teach at St Augustine's College today. Themes are biodiversity and new forms of worship shaped by a theology of creation care.

Brilliant #tftd on @bbcradio4.bsky.social with Michael Banner from Trinity Cambridge. In thinking about growth, research on famines shows that the problem is not supply but fair distribution. That is the greater challenge.

Here is the BBC analysis on the sustainability of a third runway at Heathrow. BBC News - Will electric planes and sustainable fuel make Heathrow's third runway green? www.bbc.com/news/article...

Even ignoring all the fuel used by the military (e.g., watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/f...) commercial aviation is now using 100 billion gallons of fuel a year (www.statista.com/statistics/6...). Nobody's going to produce even a useful fraction of that in "sustainable" aviation fuel

This Friday’s public Oxford Nature Seminar: Ben Wheeler on his green and blue spaces benefit public health. All welcome ! (In person and online)

Interesting article looking at conservation projects run by local communities. It compares these to "fortress conservation", which lacks the understanding that humans are part of nature and traditional ecologies. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Yesterday was Plough Sunday and it’s great to celebrate the important work of our farmers. But there are better methods than ploughing, and we need the church to support farmers to farm sustainably. See our new resources. www.operationnoah.org/new-resource...

Very interesting that the Telegraph have published this. It would be great if CCS could be dropped in favour of renewable and battery technology. CCS is years away from being effective and only prolongs dependence on fossil fuels. Getting an abacus rather than a calculator indeed.

So grateful to the @libdems.org.uk for taking the #CANBILL seriously along with the @greenparty.org.uk. Very sad that Labour and the Conservatives seem to have forgotten the vital need for a healthy planet.

Really disappointed that the #CANBILL has been pushed onto the long grass. This is not the way to treat the future of the planet. BBC News - Climate and Nature Bill falls as MPs vote to end debate www.bbc.com/news/article...

If you have a Labour MP and support this Bill, please write to them. It's not too late.

This is such a tragedy. Thank you @ollyglover.bsky.social for your support. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
