Grateful for the investments in instrumentation and scientific expertise at USGS, NOAA tsunami program, and other domestic and international partners who react to these events and provide reliable info to the public. This is not fraud, waste, or abuse of taxpayer funds.

Empathy is an important quality — for all of us, and especially in our elected officials. It’s not partisan. My daughter is part of the DC skating community that’s reeling from this incident. We can expect no comfort or competence from our current WH.

I think I’ve hit my limit in my ability to compartmentalize all of the stuff coming at us here in DC. I was barely hanging on as I watch the assault on our federal govt and career civil servants. My daughter is part of the DC figure skating community, and that flight is exactly like those we take.

The Federal Flood Risk Mgmt Standard (FFRMS) is gone. Yet in the same order: “The National Security Advisor shall immediately begin a complete and thorough review of all National Security Memoranda…for harm to national security, domestic resilience, and American values.”

Just had a sample of the Eaton Fire ash that is in my driveway run on the department XRF. Is there titanium (new house paint)? Yup. Lead (old house paint)? You betcha. Heavy metals? Check. Treat that ash like it's toxic folks (because it is)

As with all transitions, some great people leave Fed service -- mainly those in appointed or temp roles. But there are so many career folks who will still serve, still deliver on mission. If you know any, reach out. Check in. Let them know their work remains important. Show your support.

I struggle mightily with the darkness of winter. Crave the sun, if not warmth. A beautiful [late] sunrise does a lot.
