Trying something new: A 🧵 on a topic I find many students struggle with: "why do their 📊 look more professional than my 📊?" It's *lots* of tiny decisions that aren't the defaults in many libraries, so let's break down 1 simple graph by @jburnmurdoch.bsky.social 🔗 www.ft.com/content/73a1...

There are way more people around here these days, so this might be a good time to reintroduce @briefingbook.bsky.social. We want to give you the kind of analysis we did as economic policy staffers at the White House. Here's our first post from last September. www.briefingbook.info/p/welcome-to...

In honor of Bluesky allowing for multi-post threads, I'd like to tell you all about my paper forthcoming in Review of Economics and Statistics that I'm particularly proud of. "The Returns to College Major Choice: Average and Distributional Effects, Career Trajectories, and Earnings Variability" 1/?

Five million documents from the Dutch East India Company will be searchable starting on Wednesday, with an improved version of the database expected next year #archives nltimes.nl/2023/10/08/m...

I’ve been trying to make this happen in one form or another for almost 7 years, and it’s finally out. Data on income inequality and mobility within detailed demographic groups, nationally and at the state level, designed with researchers and the public in mind. www.minneapolisfed.org/institute/in...

Great paper alert! 📈📉#econsky “Studies with null results are perceived to be less publishable, of lower quality, less important, and less precisely estimated than studies with significant results” FYI the special issue of JEBO I’m coediting is very open to null results if still moving lit forward

In many of my papers, the key result is shown via a table, but I make a simple bar graph to use in talks, at least to broader audiences. I wish we all made and posted these; I'm much more likely to show someone's result in a keynote or for teaching if there is a good figure.

Sounds like folks are worried about losing data access during a possible government shutdown, so I quickly whipped up this Education Data Portal with all the major datasets on schools, districts, and colleges: educationdata.urban.org/documentation/

I wrote a book with Tal Gross! "Better Health Economics: An Introduction for Everyone" If you want to hear me discuss some of the material from the book, come to the ASSA continuing education session Jan 7-9 (I’ll be including some of the material from my book in my Health Economics lectures)

🤩 feature in the BlueSky app: show #EconSky 📈📉 feed. No need to miss out on anything. Pics show how to set this in the app

Wow just read the best freaking post by @economeager.bsky.social This is literally the most important advice. This should be framed and posted in every department. The hammer hits people into the anvil too often. rachaelmeager.substack.com/p/finish-you...
