Reasonable start to the day fked up by a missed pre-business hours call from DWP, multiple failed attempts to call back and get through, and the likely loss of my tiny, future state pension provision. If you want to know why people hate the government, look at how it feels to deal with.

Apparently you don't need a fascist government to relentlessly enforce the interests of the tech broligarchy – a spineless and clueless Labour government will be only too happy to do the job

Feels like my whole childhood and adolescence we heard about people maimed and killed by "rubber" bullets, official denials that "nonlethal force" kills people and wrecks lives, more evidence that it does, concluding with 'oh ok it actually does', and now the US is about to start the same cycle

Have been hiding, working on healing, finishing TWO manuscripts (both out in 2026!), and loving up my platform camper. Slowly emerging from the cave.

WOWOWOWOW, THE POTENCY OF UNGOVERNABLE IMPULSES is one of the Amazon Editors picks for best SciFi/Fantasy for June!

So many healthcare workers are still suffering the health consequences of frontline covid exposure, many unable to work because of cognitive or physical impairment. Yet we hear very little about this toll

sorry new-account-guys but - daughter/sister/niece of medics here - in no universe does "orthopedic surgeon" represent a thirst-worthy demographic to me. (yes I know they are fake)

this is a really fun conversation!

It’s powerful when disability takes center stage and speaks out unapologetically. This show goes beyond disability pride—it’s about histories, design and innovation, humour, loss, and joy. Massive congrats to @ndkane.bsky.social

If you've wondered why UK Labour appointed an ex-Amazon executive to chair the competition authority and handed over the entire creative industries' work to big tech barons and AI grifters, @petergeoghegan.bsky.social has the receipts: "this level of corporate influence undermines democracy."

So on the one hand you’d expect the Minister to engage with business. On the other Kyle has been bafflingly poor in the role. Grey Labour seems to have no tech policy other than the TBI, naivety and desperation.

most middle class whinge ever (sorry) but our Saturday FT is now always hours late and as I'm now middle-aged and wake up at stupid o'clock the highlight of my week - yes - coffee in bed with the dogs and all the fun bits of the paper is vanishing out of sight

Eid Al-Adha haircut day for the kids thanks to the volunteers with Dignity for Palestine. The SpiceBag Ireland logo on the wall. Yup, Adam. Yup the Shack. Yup Dignity for Palestine.

I recently learned the theory that the Little Ice Age was partly caused by colonists' 'discovery' of north America; the resulting deaths of 50 million indigenous people caused all their fields to revert to forest, and the trees sequestered so much CO2 that the Earth's temperature dropped.

This is a very good reality based report into Digital ID which I would encourage people to read before throwing shapes at each other on BlueSky. All I would add is a) ID cards would not have prevented Windrush (I was around at the time) and b) how would Northern Ireland work?

FYI if you're in the UK - despite govt restricting access to covid vaccines - you can use NHS app/website to register for a booster by simply answering 'yes' to the question of if you are in a category that's particularly affected Lots of slots on a week's notice. I'm having my 2025 booster today.
