Speaking of which (and sorry to repeat myself, but…): I have a whole talk about Trump decor and the furnishings of democracy that I’d love to share again :) bsky.app/profile/shan...

Reading through the Supreme Court judgement now. Relying on the "ordinary meaning of words" is an excellent way to ensure laws consistently discriminate against the marginalised, vulnerable and minority groups of a society. Naming is power.

this looks very cool, talks also streamed online: www.mediacoop.uni-siegen.de/en/events/

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked, "If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?" Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

Mon bus vers le boulot a dû faire un freinage d’urgence et mon épaule gauche n’est pas ravie. Mais j’ai eu le dernier pasticciotto.

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

This is a pretty old story at this point. It's not that they think that someone with a PhD should be making that much. It's that "PhD" is an absolutely empty referrent in the world, but it's a way to rank order intelligence, it sounds impressive, and they are desperate for enterprise deals

🧵Biologist Rachel Carson died OTD, 4/14/64, keeping two secrets: her love for women and her cancer diagnosis. But she was fierce in exposing toxic secrets about pesticides that other federal scientists would not go public about. “To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards out of men.”

Obviously things have got dramatically worse in the US recently, and I don't want to diminish that, but I've been at *so many* conferences in the UK on topics like empire, humanitarianism and development where multiple speakers from the Global South have been denied visas or held at the border

I worked at an ice plant when I was 18. When I told some relatives (who are now MAGA voters) that I liked the work and the pay, they quickly scolded me and told me I needed to go to college and get a white collar job. It's always other ppl's kids who have to do the physical work.
