This is my second time playing VII now, and even though I didn’t play it as a kid, I COMPLETELY understand why this game had an entire generation of gamers in an absolute nostalgia chokehold for so long. Killer game. Cannot wait to play the remake on Switch 2. So stoked.

y'all the jump from the NES Final Fantasies to FFIV is crazy, and not even in the ways you would think. I'm playing pixel remasters so they look more or less the same aesthetically. but like, the writing in IV and the scene pacing IV just absolutely takes this series to a new level, it's so good

I love that, for the first six FF games, they alternated about whether they cared more about story or mechanics. Even numbers wanted you to experience a tale; odd numbers just want you to absolutely dork around with their silly systems and get as stupid powerful as possible. (Both are great.)
