Bezos in Oct: We can't endorse because we must avoid any perception of bias. Bezos in Feb: Our op-ed pages will now be entirely devoted to two particular biases.

This week in the morning shakeout: Moving my newsletter operation over to Substack, a couple of epic 800s at U.S. indoors, why you should focus on racing over pacing, and a lot more. Like, comment, and/or share if you’re so inclined. Thank you! 🙏🏻 themorningshakeout.substack.com/p/the-mornin...

Dream by the decade. Forecast by the year. Plan by the week. Adjust by the day. 🗓️

Haven’t been feeling great the past couple days and this guy hasn’t left my side. Kinda crazy how they just know.

95 percent of coaching is helping people get out of their own way: •Overthinking •Comparison to others •Self-doubt •Not doing the thing you ACTUALLY want to do •Trying to make things happen when what's required is time and space (you know this!) •Fear of walking away

AMEN.

This week in my newsletter: More on running’s record-breaking winter season, all things LT, 50 years of travel tips, and a lot more. Please like, comment, and share if you’re so inclined. Thank you. 🙏🏻 themorningshakeout.substack.com/p/the-mornin...

One of the things I love about running is that it’s some of the most honest work a person can do. Tells you a lot about someone when they’re willing to make that commitment and put in the miles. It doesn’t matter how fast you are, you just can’t fake your way through it. Every step requires effort.

Good post recommended to me by @mariofraioli.bsky.social. So many good tips in here from @kevinkelly.bsky.social: kk.org/thetechnium/...

Not a bad way to spend Saturday afternoon.

The dogs were good again this week.

Elon's "call out conflicts" plan doesn't seem very solid

“Almost every workout we do is reinforcing raising intensity throughout,” UNC coach Chris Miltenberg told me. “Your body learns that habit pattern and will wire it in as you reinforce it more." Here's such a workout, "A Little Bit of Everything." All the deets: themorningshakeout.com/workout-of-t...

Hope everyone else’s office mate is as weird as mine.

This week’s newsletter is packed: "Distance Thunder" in 2025, recovering from the data overload epidemic, Devin Kelly on "repetitive stress," and a lot more. Please share your thoughts and/or pass it along to someone else who might enjoy it. Thank you! themorningshakeout.substack.com/p/the-mornin...

What good is a “home run” workout if you’re striking out the rest of the time? To further stretch that analogy, fitness and confidence come from making solid, regular contact. Stop swinging for the fences—singles and doubles add up over time. Better to be consistently good than occasionally great.

Weekends are anything but relaxing for most amateur athletes I know. It’s time to race, go long, or take advantage of having more time to do quality work. (Not to mention the 341 other things you need to do!) Use Monday as a rest/recovery day to absorb all that work and recharge for the week ahead.

Just wait until everyone starts doing speedwork.

An American now holds the world 🌎 record in the mile and 3000m. We are in the glory days of U.S. middle distance running. 🇺🇸

94 collegiate men have broken 4:00 in the mile so far this season. 83 collegiate women have broken 4:40 in the mile so far this season. Sheesh.

Thought that since some people like to talk endlessly about saving women's sports that I'd make a list of the most pressing issues that need addressing to improve the lives of female athletes. Would be awesome if these folks took a break from the one-note culture war to help address these.

Friday pupdate: Tahoe’s opinion on this week has not changed. He would still like you to send snacks, please.

Yep. This is the way. No different than a long race and someone comes out of nowhere to make a move that feels overwhelming and destructive. It doesn’t feel good. They want you to cave. But you’ve gotta stay in it.

Of course I’d love it if you read the whole thing but the @stevemagness.bsky.social piece about what aging can teach us about sustainable success has some good takeaways, no matter how old you are. (His new book, WIN THE INSIDE GAME, is also great.) themorningshakeout.substack.com/p/the-mornin...
