In this fantastic Webb image, what appears to be a single galaxy is actually 2 galaxies separated by a large distance. The closer galaxy is at the center, while the more distant background galaxy appears to be wrapped around the closer galaxy, forming an Einstein ring.

NGC 4522 in this Hubble image is an example of a spiral galaxy that is currently being stripped of its gas. The galaxy is part of the Virgo galaxy cluster and its rapid motion within the cluster results in strong winds across the galaxy as the gas within is left behind.

Today is March 27. On this date in 1845 physicist Wilhelm Röntgen was born. He produced and detected the electromagnetic radiation known as X-rays. As a result of this discovery, he became the first recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901.
